This is an interesting article. It makes you believe that Liberty was the 'only viable option' and the current membership decided to pass, at least for now.

Sun Belt Conference officials came out of their four-day conference meetings this past weekend with a clear message.

Although there may be some panic within conference realignment talks, the Sun Belt is not desperate enough to take just anyone.

Conference commissioner Karl Benson, who reached his one-year anniversary in the league this past April, expressed the desire to get to a 12-team football playing conference on several occasions, but he announced Wednesday during a teleconference that he and other officials came out of the meetings in Destin, Fla. with a decision to stick with 11 teams at this time.

“What this means is of July 1, 2014, we will more than likely be an 11-team league,” Benson said. “We will continue to evaluate the landscape of conference membership, but at this juncture we believe there is not a sense of urgency to move forward with any additions.
