    Default Conference TV market question

I hope this is the right forum for this question.

After I had a couple of adult beverages last night this question popped into my head, if C-DOA thinks:

MT can bring the Nashville market...
NT can bring the Dallas/Ft. Worth market...
F_U can bring the Miami/Boca market (between the Dolphins and Heat, Miami is NOT a college sport town)...

Why don't they think Troy can bring the Montgomery/Dothan markets? Is it that Montgomery/Dothan aren't big enough? Is it because we are in the shadow of TWO SEC schools. Or are ua'sb and S.Miss. standing in the way? Or all of the above?

At any rate, I wish I could see CDOA's reaction to the Nashville and Dallas TV ratings next season.

I've always been told that Montgomery and Dothan aren't very large markets...I honestly have no idea other than that

Here is how I see it. They have UAB taking the largest market, AU and Auburn take the whole state, USA takes the Mobile-Pensacola market. Troy brings nothing to the table TV wise. We have good athletics and good fan support for a small school. But there is no conference worrying about the Dothan TV market.

    From Nielsen Website

    5 Dallas-Ft. Worth 2,489,970 2.175
    16 Miami-Ft. Lauderdale 1,546,920 1.352
    29 Nashville 1,016,290 0.888
    40 Birmingham (Ann and Tusc) 739,750 0.646
    60 Mobile-Pensacola (Ft Walt) 537,810 0.470
    67 Roanoke-Lynchburg 461,420 0.403
    82 Huntsville-Decatur (Flor) 386,520 0.338
    96 Savannah 319,160 0.279
    118 Montgomery-Selma 247,230 0.216
    122 Macon 239,820 0.210
    123 Lafayette, LA 230,670 0.202
    128 Columbus, GA (Opelika, AL) 213,980 0.187
    141 Beaumont-Port Arthur 165,440 0.145
    167 Hattiesburg-Laurel 110,330 0.096
    172 Dothan 100,950 0.088

picking up 5% of the Dallas Fort Worth market is like picking up the entire Dothan Market

I would be shocked if those schools pulled in 2% of those markets.

And besides...if it is all about markets...Georgia State would be more apt to get the call to join than Troy due to the Atlanta market.

Decisions are made in boardrooms - TV markets are what the are
The example I used was North Texas picking up 5% of the Dallas Market

So let's say they pick up 2% of the Dallas Market ONLY - i think thats 48,000 TV sets
that's almost 1/2 of the Dothan Market

Just an illustration as to why them and not us

Again, I ask the question, how much more interest does a WKU@F_U game played in CDOA than a WKU@F_U game played in the Sunbelt? Answer: It doesn't. The game will be attended by 3,500 people and watched by fewer. CDOA and ESPN are committing fraud selling bowl games and advertisers on market representation.

SBC needs to verbally and publically call them out on it.
"Number 6"? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that one...

ESPNU averages fewer than 2 million viewers per game anyway. Not sure about Fox Sports where CUSA games air, but I think I read thier numbers are around 2 million. ESPN main gets around 4 - 5 million for big games (I think from what I could find) but again goes small for games in our general peer level. Big numbers just don't happen regardless of the market and they don't seem to fluctuate that much regardless of who in our peer group is playing.
