Default An Argument FOR Lamar to the SunBelt

Let me preface this by saying I am a Troy grad with no connection to Lamar University or Beaumont. I am just interested in keeping a regionally sane football conference. To me CUSA has taken a step backwards. On the field they have been terrible. Off the field, this year and over the last few years they have lost most of their marquee institutes(SMU, Houston, East Carolina, UCF, Louisville, Cincy).

While their football program hasn't exactly burned-up the Southland Conference, Lamar is only in their 3rd year back from the dead (weird, why they dropped their program after moving up to DI before).

I would say that at this point in their re-birth, support has exceeded that of FAU and FIU as you can see.

Almost every game is like this - the support is there. The University has pumped a lot of money in their facility there and they do have a vision to grow.

Beaumont is a Lamar town and is isolated from UT/TAM to some extent. It's also a larger market than Lafayette, Jonesboro, Dothan, I think Montgomery and even Hattiesburg. It is much bigger than Denton.

Has a nice Montgomery-like downtown, including Crockett Streets.

More importantly, it fits within our geographic area and would fit in well with Texas State and ULL. And there is interest from their supporters.

In basketball, they would be an immediate contender. Look at the support - this is a DI school:

Baseball - great facilities - including indoor practice area, NCAA Tournament participant...http://www.lamarcardinals.com/facili...k-stadium.html

    Softball: Re-started, new little park

The campus in general...10,500 students. Has a College of Engineering

    Default Clarifications

    The Beaumont-Port Arthur-Orange MSA is around 390,000

The softball field currently used is located at Ford Park, but there are plans to build a better one on campus.

Enrollment is just over 14,600 and growing.

In addition to our College of Engineering, the nursing and education programs are also some of the top in the state.

Also, the west end is nice with additional offerings for entertainment apart from downtown.

I knew there was a post about Lamar a while back and it no comparison between them and NMSU and Idaho. Missouri State would be an even better candidate.

For the love of God and the good of all man-kind Idaho, please quietly move back to IAA. Nobody would notice.

    Scenic Aggie Stadium

Dump of a stadium...but not too far behind Cajun Field

    More Aluminum-Out Games

    UA's B Team/MTSU/F_U-like Support

Wazzu-East Campus is just not acceptable for any reason

And somebody can add this link to that SunBelt Message; I can't stand most of you people, but at least you went/go to Troy.

"Number 6"? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that one...
