How is it that every time Troy plays at a bigtime program, the game is not televised, at least not on any significant network.

Let's see: Virginia, LSU (PPV only), Ohio State (PPV), Okla. State (PPV), Florida (twice), Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Miami, Nebraska (twice), etc., etc. Even when playing at the mid-majors such as BGSU (last year), we got ... nada!

I see plenty of smaller programs on TV all the time against much bigger programs, including Jax State at Ole Miss. You can't tell me that game was a real programmer's dream before it was played.

Do we just ask to be screwed, or are we the most unlucky traveling program for TV in the land? Isn't there any way to ink a TV guarantee when agreeing to these away games?

I didn’t put this quote on special teams coverage in the story, but here’s what Blakeney said about it. Those who know football more than I do will understand it more. I do know the special teams meeting lasted about 45 minutes and some personnel was changed. For instance, Chris Anderson said he’s now on the kickoff coverage unit.

With 30 points scored in the first game, we are on pace to score ... well, I'll let you do your homework.

We have two more games (Ok State and Alabama-Birmingham) to go before we close the entries.

You've got 3 games to evaluate and then post your totals. Remember, only one entry per member and you have to PM me with your guess IN THE SUBJECT LINE.

I've had a couple of people NOT put the total points in the subject line. Those entries have not been opened, they have been deleted.

Check the thread (stickied for your convenience) to see if your entry has been rec'd. If you have PM'd me and don't see your name on the list, then you did something wrong (probably didn't put the guess in the subject line).

Two more games and we'll put everyone's guess in the sticky and put them in number order (from greatest to leastest) and have some fun knocking people off as the Trojans score score score!

Hope everyone is having fun with this. Thanks again to SchoolSpirit101.com for sponsoring this contest. We hope to have more in the future. The only way to have more contest is for you, the members of GoTroyTrojans.com, support our sponsors.

Head over to SchoolSpirit101.com and check out their selection. Great items, great prices, great discounts, and they support GoTroyTrojans.com

Looking forward to Ok State game this weekend. Wonder how many points the Men of TROY will put up on Saturday.

*A View from the Stands – Jay B. Eller*

*Troy Trojans 30; Bowling Green Falcons 27*

*A Second Chance with only Seconds Left*

Michael Taylor...

A View from the Stands – Jay B. Eller

Troy Trojans 30; Bowling Green Falcons 27

A Second Chance with only Seconds Left

Michael Taylor missed a 51 yard field goal with 2:21 left in the 4th quarter which would have put the Trojans ahead late in the game. The Falcons had the ball and it looked like they would win. However, Tony Davis intercepted a pass at Troy’s 35 yard line, and 7 plays later Taylor got a second chance as he kicked the last of his three field goals, this one from 34 yards out with only 4 seconds left on the clock.

Troy won a back and forth contest despite several miscues and 13 penalties. Bowling Green scored first on an impressive 92 yard drive midway in the 1st quarter. Troy answered when freshman quarterback Cory Robinson connected with Jason Bruce on a 38 yard TD pass. Each team scored another TD and a field goal leaving the game tied 17-17 at the half. Troy received the 2nd half kickoff and after only three plays punted the ball to the Falcons’ Eugene Cooper who returned the ball 63 yards for an easy TD. On the third play of the next Trojan possession, Jerrel Jernigan scored just as easily from 49 yards out from the wildcat formation to tie the game at 24 apiece. Another field goal for each team and the score was tied 27-27 at the end of the third. The only score in the 4th quarter was Taylor’s game winning field goal.

Robinson was 25 of 37 for 252 yards and one TD. The Trojans totaled 475 yards on offense even though they lost 129 yards in penalties. Jerrel Jernigan led the Trojans in yardage as he caught 6 passes, returned 3 punts, and rushed 5 times from the wildcat formation. He danced around defenders, slipped through tackles, and outran everyone on his 49 yard rushing TD. His 193 total yards almost triples his closest teammate, Shawn Southward who had 14 carries for 74 yards and one TD.

Troy’s defense held the Falcons to 329 yards, forced two turnovers, and only allowed one TD out of 4 Red-Zone chances. However, they were forced to defend a short field several times due to turnovers and less than perfect kickoff and punt return coverage. Former Trojan and current Dallas Cowboys’ all-pro defensive end, Demarcus Ware was at the game and gave the Trojan defenders some advice on the sidelines. It showed, as the defensive line put a lot more pressure on the Falcons’ quarterback in the 2nd half and basically shutdown the Falcons on third down attempts.

The Trojans preserved their winning streak for home openers at 20 games which is exactly the same number of years Larry Blakeney has been the coach.

Next up: Sep 11th, The Oklahoma State Cowboys

The Trojans have some work to do before getting on the plane to Stillwater, OK. The most glaring is 13 penalties. Another is punt and kickoff return coverage. On the bright side these are the easiest to fix. Robinson did throw two interceptions early in the game but overall he had a 68% completion rate. Not bad for a freshman in his first start. Troy’s running backs and receivers looked good. The defense was fast but inexperienced. It’s said that teams improve the most between the first and second games. Games like Troy just played against Bowling Green are a good learning experience.

Oklahoma State just beat Washington State 65-17 as their star running back, Kendall Hunter, rushed for 257 yards and four TDs. Clearly the Cowboys can score points. However, Washington State has only won 3 games in the last two years. Games like Oklahoma State just played against Washington State are not a good learning experience.

Oklahoma State now uses a spread offense too. They just installed it this season and it seems to be working well. Troy’s been playing the spread for quite a while now and they are used to it. If Troy corrects the mistakes they made on Saturday, they’ll be able to stand toe-to-toe with the Cowboys and win the game.

TROY will be minus guys like Johnny Thompson, possibly Jay Stansberry...It sounds like the team will be up for the challenge. We all know that it may require a herculean effort, but that's what the coaches emphasize in these situations. With minimal mistakes and maximum effort could be "IT" for our young Trojans.
