TROY, Ala. -- Omar Haugabook passed for a career-high 371 yards and a touchdown and ran for 49 yards and two scores as Troy upset Oklahoma State 41-23 in a dominating performance Friday night.

It was only the second win in 10 tries for the Trojans of the Sun Belt Conference against a Big 12 opponent. Led by Haugabook's passing and running, Troy outplayed the Cowboys throughout, gaining 562 total yards to 432 for Oklahoma State.

Troy (1-2) played an aggressive, emotional game in front of the home crowd after opening the season with lopsided road losses to No. 16 Arkansas and No. 5 Florida. It was possibly Troy's biggest win since Sept. 9, 2004, when then-No. 17 Missouri, also of the Big 12, came to Troy and was upset by the Trojans 24-14.

A group of about 100 fans tore down one of the goal posts within minutes after the game ended and paraded it around the field.

It was another bad day away from home for the Cowboys (1-2), who are 2-9 in their last 11 road games. They had four turnovers and had trouble all night keeping up with the speedy Troy offense.

How soon they forget...they think they'll win this year because they "owe" us...Well, here's a friendly reminder...

Which is stronger the chip that is always on our shoulder because of the disrespect we are typically given or their sense of owing us? We will see but I will bet on the chip on the shoulder every time.

I think we CAN beat them. We get them at a good time. By then, Jamie would have settled in as a great qb. A few things to consider:

1) Their QB Situation: There was much turmoil surrounding this when they came here, and, if I am correct, it was Zack Robinson's first game. He is a MUCH better QB now.

2) Road Games: Oklahoma State was 2-9 on the road when they came here. Not saying it was a guaranteed win because they came here, but their road record made it easier to win.

3) ESPN: Troy ALWAYS plays better on tv. This time, the game is in stillwater and as far as I know, there's no ESPN.

4) Chips don't always win games: The 24-14 home victory over #17 Missouri in 2004, was followed by a 52-21 away loss in 2005. Though I must say, the 2005 team was much worse than the 2004 team. I don't believe that's the case here. I think we'll be just as good or one small step behind last year's team.

I believe we can win, just like we can win all the games on our schedule. I think less INT's and less turnover's in general would be a good change of pace and could lead to a SBC Title.

However, OK State will be much improved (i.e. more speed). OSU returns 12 starters and has added several Top JUCOS this year:

MAURICE GRAY (CB, ****), Butler CC

That's what I mean. It's not a given that we're going to win. We can win, but it will be very tough. If we beat MTSU in the opener, we'll have a great season. If we loose to them in the opener, it could be a long year...

should we be concerned about their speed? did we lose ours? I hope to god not..speed kills..and everyone knows Troy isnt some push over football team. They may have so called better 4/5 star recruits..but we have speed and skill...we owe Oklahoma State nothing...I hope we drill them in Stillwater

We defintely have the speed, just read my sig. All I'm saying is there were a lot of factors that played into the 2007 game such as tv, a new qb, and a horrible road record. Can we win? Sure, but it won't be the layup last year's game was.

By the way, how fast is Jamie Hampton? Rivals says he runs a 4.87. I've heard he's gotten much faster.

According to rivals/scout between 4.8 and 5.1

It usually takes more than 3 games to settle in as a great qb. Good, perhaps, but great? I hope so, but doubt it. Not that soon.

I heard someone said at T-Day he ran with the WR and the coaches had him at 4.53? Just what i heard he did look fast on that 50 yard run during T-Day..

Not too shabby. Omar ran between a 4.4 and 4.5. I have a lot of faith in Hampton. I think, in different ways, he can be as productive as Omar was last year by the time he's a junior. He's got decent passing numbers already and he can run. Just by having less INT's, he'll be as productive as Omar come 2009.

If were OK State I wouldn't be as scared to play Troy in Stillwater than if they came back to Troy. Troy would win in Troy, but honestly... We have 1 BCS Conference win on the road TOTAL.

Do I think we can win? Of course, but just remember the 'close calls' in the past few years and realize that we have a harder time winning in BCS Road Games because home cooking exists majorly at just about any school, but play an 'inferior' team (to their fans... not to those that know about football) it exists MUCH more.

It looks like to me, they recruited well, but so did Troy...and the guys that you named were lookin' for a high profile. We got the ones with the chips on their shoulders...I'll take them everytime...(ref. ksdtrojan)

Good point. In fact, everyone's posted some very good points. Those guys you mentioned will be a force to be reckoned with. We have Top 25 Talent this year. I honestly believe that. However, this team could either completely fall way below expectations (2005) or they could be SBC Champs in the Top 25. It could go either way. Nothing's been proven yet. I'll take that telent you provided and go one step further:

Jacoby Thomas *** - Top 25 Linebacker
Tebiarus Gill *** - Excellent WR
Charles Reeves *** - World Class Speed WR

If Maurice Greer lives up to his potential, he'll be absolutely DEADLY when combined with our offensive line. That will allow Jamie's passing to open up also coupled with a great offensive line. Tim Lamb is going to turn heads and Jorrick Calvin will produce like he has on film (one handed INT was impressive). I just hope all of what I'm saying will actually translate to the field.

The difference between our and OSU's guys is that Oklahoma State's JUCOS are already on campus participating in spring practice while we still don't really know who is going to show up this fall. Both Greer and Lamb (+ Calvin, Ricks) need to qualify first.
