Congratulations on your bowl bid! I'm sure we will have a great game. If you've been to the NIU message board and notice alot of disappointment, its not because we don't respect Troy, it's that we think both of us would have benefited from playing a BCS or "name" team.

I would agree with the BCS or "name" school thing but now we just have to hope for a clean-hard fought well played game.....and a Trojan win as well.

I hope a majority of Husky posts are this civil

Congrats to you also. We feel your pain. About two weeks ago we thought we were most likely to go to the Indy Bowl--so we had our hopes squashed also. Looking forward to the SVB and a good game.

All of us are pretty civil. There are always some flamers just like on any board. Just ignore them. A minor correction, it is H U S K I E S.

I went to the Alabama game last year. It was the best away game I ever went to. The Tide fans were truly the greatest. It made me really respect the Tide.

I watched you guys play Missouri earlier this year. I loved how Missouri's offense had no answer to your defense. You also have a very intense offense.

I guess intense is a better term for our offense instead of frustratingly inconsistent :D
There you go trying to start something by correcting our spelling and everything

So, tell me about your team. The Huskies have a very good offense except for the second half of the Toledo Game. We have a great running back named Garrett Wolfe, and lots of receivers including our tight ends. Our back up running back is very good also. Our defense is very questionable, although it is hard to tell just how good/bad they are since Toledo and Bowling Green put up awesome numbers against every defense they play including each other.

Our defense is our calling card. Led the nation in interceptions and have an nfl-caliber defensive end by the name of demarcus ware who was the sun belt defensive player of the year. also a finalist for a major national defensive award.
offense is run based with troy's all-time rusher dewhitt betterson leading the way. young but exciting qb in dt mcdowell.
pretty good special teams especially punter

We do about 50% run and 50% pass. I'm glad your a run based team offense. We'll match up better defensively.

I wouldn't exactly say we're totally run-based....start trying to stop the run and BAM! DT throws deep to Samples....

Nice Trojan

And punt returner

TrojanEmpire

......and overthrows him by five yards (j/k) I would dare say passing is not our strong suit this year. O-line has been too inconsistent. sorry about leaving out the punt returner

We would expect that (passing). Our pass rush is just not that good, but our DBs and corners are decent. We also have a very good and large O-line. Our special teams are questionable.

Troy D has a big interior line and some good backers - they stop the run, then like TrojanEmpire said, Ware helps opposing QBs aim theit passes at Troy DBs. Have 2 DBs nationally ranked - Ansley and Faulk - they are real ball hawks.

Good thread, Huskie. As for our special teams, I would expect at least one big play from our star receiver/return man, senior Dan Sheldon. He's a quick cutting, scrappy white guy who turns nothing into something. If he gets a good block, he's gone.

We got a good return man too - McKelvin - he's a freshman - if he gets a crease nobody catches him

TrojanEmpire

that's true but the problem is we keep getting clipping or blocking in the back penalties when he does it :?

This is gonna be fun. I love special teams. It can really change the complexion and momentum of a game...

Great game. Loved your band. They got a standing ovation from the Huskie fans. You have a good team and have accomplished alot in a short time. The Huskies are a very good hard nosed football team with lots of offensive weapons and options as I mentioned in my overview of our team. I was glad we were able to compete against your defense. Our O-ine is very large and experienced as I'm sure you found out. Maybe we'll play again sometime. I know we have an opening next year for a home game and I hear you also have an opening.

The NIU opening and the Troy opening are not on the same date. NIU is open on Sept. 17th. Troy plays at Mizzou on the 17th - no way that is getting moved (unless Mizzou chickens out!). Troy opening is game one on Sept. 3rd. Our 3rd OCC game has to be at home because our first two are on the road vs. U of Michigan and Northwestern. It would be great to get Troy up in DeKalb. Perhaps in 2006?
