Where can the University expand? It needs to badly or we will have to deny folks student housing.

Expansion of student housing on campus will depend on a few things, the most glaring of which is the current fraternity row on Pell. If the new fraternity Greek Village is built on the present site of the fraternity houses on Pell, then that will eliminate Pell as a possibility for new student housing. However, if the Greek Village is built at another location (most likely in the vicinity of sorority hill and lake lagoona), then this would free up Pell Avenue as a potential area for new residence halls.

At some point, the wooded area between Stewart Dining Hall and lake lagoona will likely be cleared and developed for student housing and/or academics.

In the meantime, the new apartments (The Grove) going up behind sorority hill on Academy Street will help tremendously in the need for student housing. I drove by there this morning to look at the progress of the complex and this thing is going to be massive.

My fraternity was told in October that fraternity row was going to be rebuilt on Pell Avenue, with the east and west ends of the street to be closed and the only entrance being from a road that is now the ravine (behind what was Dill Hall).

Our house and others would face the ravine/street. We voted to rebuild on site.

Construction was slated to start this summer.

Does anyone have any news since Homecoming?

I think that one of the big things that really need to be looked at is parking. There is barely enough residential parking and no where near enough commuter parking. With as fast as Troy is growing parking is starting to become a big problem during normal school days. The shuttle system working good but they don't have a strict schedule of when they will go by each stop so it's kind of hit and miss at this point. The one that goes by my house running in a 10 minute window so I cant tell if it just hasn't come yet or if I missed it. I know they are expensive as crap with with the lack of building space sooner or later a parking deck is going to have to be built.
Improvement list
1. More student housing
2. Accurate shuttle schedules
3. Parking deck

There is enough commuter parking people just don't like walking. There is plenty of spots over there next to the football practice fields. The school has said they aren't going to expand parking until those spots fill up.

People in Troy have been complaining about parking since the 90's when I was there. There is not a parking problem at Troy, you may have to walk more than a 1/2 block to class but there is plenty of parking. If these kids would go to other colleges they would realize that parking at Troy is great. You actually get to park on campus as a freshman, many colleges don't allow that.

Someone mentioned a parking deck earlier in the thread. If the university ever does consider building a parking deck, they might want to look at University of Georgia's campus. I spent about 3 days there this past weekend and parking seems to be a big issue there. They have parking decks EVERYWHERE on that campus it seems. They don't look half bad either. They do a pretty good job of making them blend in with the rest of the campus.

Commuter parking may not be all that bad right now but residential parking is pretty bad with the exception of Alumni. But if Troy continues to grow at it's current rate parking will very quickly become an issue. I think a parking deck was number 13 or so on their priority campus improvement list.

They tore down the old army ROTC building and are planing on adding spaces there. I wonder how much it would cost to widen he road on the front and side of the band practice field to add in a row of parallel parking there? I wish the could have off campus parking for commuters only and have steady shuttle bus's going to and from them. Maybe have it set up like the teachers parking next to smith where you have to have an id card to get into the lot. There are places to park right now if you don't mind walking but before too long there wont be anywhere on campus to park.

The only reason there's ever been a parking problem on campus (at least in the last 10 years) is lazy dorm dwellers who feel a need to drive from Alumni to Saga. I know, I was one for a year.
