I was just reading the last Sun Belt weekly football release and it states that the Sun Belt Conference is ranked 12th in the Jeff Sagarin Ratings. The MAC was 13th. Who should get the bowl bid; Troy or another MAC school?

A MAC school, we aren't overrated. We're underrated just like every other mid major. Looking at the rankings of confenences with bowl eligable teams and bowl bound teams the MAC is rated higher than the sunbelt and most other conferences. It all depends on the stats you choose to see.

I always pull for the small school. I love to see the upsets. Besides that makes the small schools look good. I hate the big conferences. Good luck to the MAC teams that do make a bowl game as well as North Texas.

Actually, the MAC is ranked 14th behind the Division 1-AA Great West Conference.

The MAC has way more teams than the Sun Belt too. If you look at the last BCS poll of the regular season you will see that the Sun Belt's top-dog, North Texas, is ranked higher than all 14 MAC teams.

Troy University is ranked ahead of all MAC teams except for Toledo, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois, and Miami of Ohio.

Seven of the MAC's 14 teams are listed in the Bottom 8 spots in the nation in all Division 1-A according to that poll. Idaho, the Sun Belt's worst team, is ranked ahead of all seven of those MAC schools.

The reason why you don't see so many Sun Belt teams with many wins (which is what puts you at the top of most polls) is because we played tougher conference opponents and we have fewer conference opponents to play therefore our remaining games are against teams from high-profile conferences or other non-Power Six conferences.

This year, the Sun Belt defeated three MAC teams and one Mountain West team.

MTSU went 5-6 this on the season this year, but if we played teams as bad as Buffalo, Central Florida, Ball State, and Eastern Michigan every year, we'd have winning record after winning record year in and year out.

Let's take a look at Northern Illinois' schedule, since they are going to the Independence Bowl which is the highest pro-filed bowl that the MAC has somehow managed to win this year.

Let's see. The Huskies went 8-3. Victories were over Division 1-AA Southern Utah. They managed to beat Bowling Green, which was the best win for them this year. Their other six wins were against MAC teams that were ranked behind MTSU is the BCS poll. And only one of those--Akron--was ranked ahead of Sun Belt teams. The other five were ranked behind every single team in the Sun Belt including Idaho. Those teams that NIU beat were Central Florida, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Ball State, and Eastern Michigan.

Southern utah??? What are you smoking?
The reason you don't seee more MAC teams with good record is that they play tougher conference opponents. The better teams, BGSU, toledo, NIU, Miami, ect beat the crap out of everyone else. Those first 3 teams alone give the west division teams 3 losses at minimum. throw in 3 OOC games for those teams against big schools theres at least 2 more losses. When teh top end is strong teh lower teams suffer because they get the snot beat out of them. Just like N tex does to your conference.

My bad. Southern Illinois. Not like there's much of a difference except school and location. It was still a Division 1-AA team and one that NIU struggled with.

Give the SIU Saluki's their props... They were the #1 ranked D-1AA team the entire season. They were better than the some of the bottom feeder teams in the MAC and Sunbelt...

Yes, the MAC teams beat up on each other and most of them are really, really bad football teams. MAC football has been around for 54 years or so and SBC football surpassed them after being around only 4 years. MAC football was good last year, but this year it is really BAD!

You guys do know that the Sun Belt is changing its conference schedule platform next season. With teams leaving this year, everyone plays seven conference games, 1/3 of the season for each team in the conference will be conference impications.

And the football representitive for the Sun Belt told me earlier in the year, that the conference will determine who and where each team plays each conference game. Which, is good for the conference, because teams won't be able to schedule home games against schools they don't want to lose to i.e...Troy would always be on the road.

That should raise the outlook of the Sun Belt even more considering the teams that will be playing: Troy, North Texas, MTSU, Ark. State, ULL, ULM, FAU, and FIU.

That is a pretty tough schedule, especially when you add in the three non-conference games we will play against big D-1 schools.

And yes the MAC is overrated, of course they had four teams in the bottom top 10, look at who they play - Nobody!

Don't forget Ark. State. Utah State is leaving.

TropolitanSportsEditor, you are correct. Every Sun Belt team will play seven Sun Belters next year.

MTSU has four Sun Belt teams at home--North Texas, Arkansas State, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Louisiana-Monroe. . .

. . .and three Sun Belt teams on the road--Florida Atlantic, Florida International, and Troy University.

MTSU's non-conference slate includes roadies at Alabama in Tuscaloosa, at Vanderbilt, and at Temple. . .

. . .and one home non-conference against Akron, a current MAC team and former conference member of the 1-AA Ohio Valley with MTSU. We are 7-1 all time against the Zips.
