Oh ****! He has no love for us, just ask him about the 2001 game v Wyoming in Logan.

Utah State Notes: Aggies hopes rest on a lack of turnovers

By Steve Luhm

The Salt Lake Tribune

LOGAN - After Utah State committed 10 turnovers in its first three football games, the Aggies didn't have one last week in Las Vegas.
No wonder they hit the jackpot.
Utah State snapped a nine-game road losing streak with a 31-21 victory over UNLV, and the Aggies hope to make it two in a row Saturday at Troy. They have not won consecutive games on the road since 1999.
"If we can get another win, it would really help our confidence," senior quarterback Travis Cox said.
If the Aggie offense continues to protect the football, and if the defense remains as opportunistic as it was at UNLV, Utah State will have a chance against favored Troy. The Aggies forced five turnovers, including four second-half interceptions.
"Any time you win 5-0 on the turnover ratio, your success ratio does way up," Utah State defensive coordinator Dave Kotulski said. "We made a lot of mistakes, but the kids showed a lot of competitiveness. They really tried."
Cox makes his 17th career start against Troy. He has thrown at least one touchdown pass in 15 of the previous 16 games. The only time he did not throw for a score was last season, during the Trojans' 23-14 win over Utah State at Romney Stadium.

Up and down

Troy comes off a 17-7 loss at South Carolina, which is indicative of the Trojans' season.
Troy's defense played well against one of the most highly regarded teams in the Southeastern Conference, but the offense could not move the football.
Troy managed only 195 yards against the Gamecocks, and featured running back DeWhitt Betterson gained only 50 yards on 12 carries. The Trojans' lone touchdown came after a fumble recovery deep in South Carolina territory.
In a search for consistency, Troy coach Larry Blakeney has been alternating senior Aaron Leak and freshman D.T. McDowell at quarterback. Both are expected to play against the Aggies.
"I believe our kids will be ready," Blakeney said. "They are resilient."

Senior defensive tackle Ronald Tupea will make his team-high 35th straight start at Troy. . . . Safeties Andre Bala and Jason Walker have been cleared to play after suffering mild concussions against UNLV. . . . Troy's defensive coordinator is Vic Koenning, the former coach at Wyoming.

I hope Vic has gotten over his opinion about our team being a bunch of dirty players who take cheap shots. Durring the 01 game v Wyoming, one of our players threw a Wyo player out of bounds and he hit a cement wall head on. Vic didn't have any nice words for the Aggies after that.

That wouldn't be the only hard feelings between Troy and Utah State - their coach was the coach at Montana when they ran up 70 points on us in the playoffs. Don't think for a second that LB has forgotten that.
