Troy’s Robinson and Elsisi Named NSCA All-Americans

TROY, Ala. – Former Troy University football player Zsan Robinson, and current Trojans tennis standout Rawia Elsisi have been named Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year award winners by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), head strength coach Richard Shaughnessy announced today.
Robinson, a graduating senior from Rockledge, Fla., saw his playing career come to an end at North Texas in 2003 when he suffered a devastating knee injury.
"After the injury, and after having several surgical procedures, he was told that he would be lucky to walk with a limp for the rest of his life," Shaughnessy said during Troy’s Student-Athlete Convocation Monday afternoon. "He never believed that and has worked harder over the last three years than any other athlete on this campus. There have been many days when he has met me at the weight room door at 5:30 in the morning.
"Even though he knew that he would never play again, he continued to work and has been an inspiration. This spring he went through our pro day with our other seniors, and if you didn’t know about the injury, you would have not known he’d ever been hurt."
Elsisi is a sophomore on the Troy women’s tennis team and is a native of Cairo, Egypt. This spring she posted a 7-9 record as Troy’s No. 1 tennis player in singles and teamed with three different doubles partners to post a 10-6 mark as the program’s No. 1 doubles team.
"Rawia is a very hard worker," Shaughnessy said. "She goes above and beyond to be the best. She spends countless hours in the weight room and on the court and is also a high academic achiever."
Elsisi was named the Sun Belt Conference Student-Athlete of the Week during the fall and was recognized during a televised Troy football game.
