Dodge City (Kan.) Community College wide receiver Kenard Burton has been attracting attention from schools all football season. Now, the Pahokee, Fla., native is narrowing things down and is nearing a decision as the December signing period nears.

"I am still pretty high on Kansas State," the 5-foot-9, 175-pound Burton said. "I don't know when I'll make my decision. I'll take all my visits and see what my options are at that time. I've had some new schools kind of jump in on me lately."

The two new schools are Iowa State and Kansas.

"I've gotten calls from KU and Iowa State recently and they want me to visit. Iowa State is looking at having me in next weekend (Dec. 8) and KU is maybe looking at the next weekend. I already visited Troy State (Nov. 17) and I'm going to Kansas State this weekend."

Burton will be signing with his school of choice in December and will enroll in time for the spring semester.

"I am graduating in December," he said. "I'll get my decision made before long, but I don't have a favorite right now."

The Troy Trojans offense is one the three-star rated prospect believes he can fit in.

"The Troy visit was pretty good. I like the system there. They throw the ball a lot. That is the type of offense I would like, I think. I am going to look at the systems each of the schools have in place to help me make my decision."

Burton isn't concerned with the location of the school.

"It doesn't matter where I go. I just want to go somewhere where I can get the best chance to get to the NFL. I am being recruited as a receiver. I played defensive back last year. I'd rather be at receiver, but whatever the team needed is what I would do."

Troy looks to be recruiting Dodge City CC pretty heavily. I guess this is because Omar played there. We currently have 1 commit (Tim Ward), and 3 other prospects listed from DCCC. Hopefully Omar can help get these guys to commit to Troy, especially the other OL (Hatten) and the DL (Belcher). Burton would be a nice pick up with his 4.4 speed.

You can't tell me these kids are still saying "Troy State" - especially the younger kids who only know Troy without the "State".

I think they are being misquoted by the Web site writers. I have written to these sites numerous times, with little success.

The other big time player at Dodge City is three-star receiver Kenard Burton. The 5-foot-9, 175-pounder said earlier this week he was slated to visit Kansas State and Iowa State over the next two weekends, but Powers doesn't think he'll make either visit.

"I get the perception ever since K-State beat Texas, they've been able to recruit some guys that are probably a little bit better," Powers said. "I don't think he's going to be going to K-State this weekend, and he was also being recruited by the old staff at Iowa State. So I don't think he's on the new staff's radar quite yet.

"He still has a very good option from Troy. I wouldn't say he's committed to them or anything quite yet, but they're definitely a top school for him. He's kind of sitting back and looking for some good options at this point. It's still kind of up in the air what might happen with him."

Wow.....it seems like everything is happening for a reason. This guy was meant to come here. Thanks Kansas State and Iowa State.

Actually you could probably thank Omar! I really believe he will have alot to do with these guys coming to Troy thus opening a real solid window of recruiting at DCCC.

I'm just glad that bigger ranked prospects are looking this way. I always thought that the best situation for a person to shine is if they are able to come in and make an impact immediately. A ton of guys go to these other schools and probably NEVER see the field.....and why???? Just to say you went to that school.

I also think that it would be cool to bring a program up out of nowhere and say that I WAS A PART OF THAT. You could be a legend at a school like this and an after-thought, or never-was, at a bigger school.

All you 5-stars, take note. Troy is now! The doors are open. Come on in!
