View Full Version : FIU - Troy Football Game Info

11-28-2006, 04:14 PM
Gametime: 7 p.m. Eastern

I have not heard anything about an official Troy alumni presence at the game (and, yes, I e-mailed the people in charge) , so ...

Below please find more than you might want to know about the game venue. I hope to see lots of you there Saturday. If you attend, please come by our tailgate spot and introduce yourselves - especially if you live down here, because we are planning to start a Troy South Florida alumni chapter.

Stadium Info:

It looks like a warm days and moderate nights weekend for football in South Florida. It should reach around 86 degrees on Saturday before cooling into the 60s at night, with a sometimes brisk wind.

FIU Campus Map
Here is a link to a map showing FIU, including an aerial photo:

Driving Directions

Drive south on Florida's Turnpike, south and west of Miami, to Exit 25 (S.W. 8th Street, also called Tamiami Trail).

Drive east less than a mile and turn south onto S.W. 12th Avenue into the main entrance to the campus. Make the first right onto University Drive and loop around to the south until you come to the southwest edge of campus and the football stadium. You can also turn left onto the loop and come around to the stadium from the east.

FIU is way out west near the Everglades. If you are coming from the coastal area (Miami Beach, I-95, etc.), take I-95 (or 395, which is what I-95 becomes south of Miami) to 836. Drive west to Florida's Turnpike and go south to Exit 25 (S.W. 8th / Tamiami Trail) and then east to the campus. You can also take the 836 to the 826 and then go south on the 826 to S.W. 8th Street (Tamiami Trail) and then west on S.W 8th several miles, then turn left (south into the campus).

If you are coming from Miami International Airport ... Drive out to the 836 and west to Florida's Turnpike, then south to south to Exit 25 (S.W. 8th / Tamiami Trail) and then east to the campus.

If you are coming from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, take I-95 south into the north Miami area, to the junction with 826. Go west on 826 (it eventually curves south), then west on 836 to Florida's Turnpike, then south on the turnpike slightly to Exit 25 (S.W. 8th / Tamiami Trail).

The drive is simpler than these directions make it appear.

Tailgating Info

Look for our tailgate area either just to the east of the stadium, or perhaps just south of the stadium in the parking lot. I'll have my blue Ford Explorer SportTrack and old "TSU" flag flying. Bring your own and/or enjoy what we have in the way of drinks and food. We'll have coolers, chairs, etc. E-mail me at BMarkey@PalmsWestPhoto.com (BMarkey@PalmsWestPhoto.com) with questions and comments.

Buy them at the gate or through Troy. They cost $15 at the gate for sidelines and $5 for end zones. I would assume end zone ticket holders could just slip into the sidelines because of an expected poor attendance game. See: http://www.fiusports.com/ (http://www.fiusports.com/).

Other Plans in South Florida

For anyone staying over Sunday, the Dolphins ( http://www.miamidolphins.com (http://www.miamidolphins.com/) ) host the Jaguars at Dolphin Stadium (south of Fort Lauderdale), many of the best equestrians in the world will compete in Wellington (west of West Palm Beach) in the National Horse Show ( http://www.nhs.org/wellington/ (http://www.nhs.org/wellington/) ) on Wednesday through Sunday, and the Marathon of the Palm Beaches ( http://www.marathonofthepalmbeaches.com/ (http://www.marathonofthepalmbeaches.com/) ) kicks off on Sunday morning along the waterfront in downtown West Palm Beach. The Heat and Panthers play out of town.

Be sure to stop by the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel just off Florida's Turnpike south of Fort Lauderdale. It's like a Universal Studios for adults, and looks like Universal's CityWalk. Parking and admission is free, there are many, many bars and restaurants, and of course, the casino. We did well there last weekend.

does the game start at 6 PM or 7 PM? what time will you start tailgating

11-28-2006, 04:48 PM
The game starts at 7 p.m. Eastern time.

We had planned to start tailgating at around 3 or 4, or whenever everyone wants to arrive.

that only leaves a couple of hours for tailgating.. a good tailgating experience has to be longer than that..

You should at least start at 7am!!! 12 hours!!! ; )

Not coming down... doesn't matter to me! : )

I wish I could make it though. I would definitely party with you guys. I love me a good tailgating party. As long as the brats are hot and beers are cold it is good times!

Of course if you don't have Brats.. don't bother calling it tailgating!
