This is probably just an internet rumor, but you are more familiar with the teams than most.
A post on the Muts (MTSU) board indicates that WW may be talking to Ga. Southern &/or Applachian State about the possibility of joining our conference. There is also a thread on the Ga. Southern board discussing what a radio sports guy is alledged to have said.
Any thought, comments ? Thanks

I ahve not heard that anywhere, but will say it would be hard as crap for them to do so within the next year or two as neither have a facility to really handle a D-1 school.
Maybe like 5 or 6 years down the road, but not within a year or two.

I may be mistaken. I might have them mixed up with Valdosta State, but I'm pretty sure the AD of Ga. Southern wrote a long article on their website discussing why they wouldn't be moving up and dissing the teams that were successful at 1-AA that are "bottom feeders" now in 1-A. He called out the Sunbelt and ULM, Troy, and a couple more of our schools in particular about this. He'd be having to eat a lot of crow now.
As for Ap State, I haven't heard or seen anything about them.

It was Georgia Southern AD Sam Baker. I can't find the big article he wrote that I mentioned above, but here's an excerpt and quote from Mr. Baker that was in an article from a FAMU website
Georgia Southern athletics director Sam Baker opposes the sentiment that a school must have a Division I-A football program in order for its athletics program to be financially successful.
Despite the Eagles winning six Division I-AA national championships since 1985, Baker insists his program won't follow FAMU to Division I-A.
"Why would you want to move from a level that you can be very successful at to a level that the track record is not very good for the schools that made that move?" Baker said. "... I don't understand that thinking."
Baker said his school's athletics program operates on a $6.5-million budget, which matches FAMU's but is far lower than the $25 million he believes it takes to be competitive in Division I-A football.
Here's the whole article: http://www.famu.edu/about/admin/vppa/News/1-A_Move_Costly/1-a_move_costly.html
As you can see, if Sam does move up, he got some splain' to do.
