Dodge City (Kan.) Community College quarterback Omar Haugabook took two official visits in December and was nearing a final decision at that point. Then, another school entered the picture and he decided to take one more visit before he making a final choice.
"I am down to two schools," the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Haugabook said. "Troy State and Marshall are my final two. I'm going to sit down tonight and think things through and talk about them some more with my family. Then I'll make my choice."
Haugabook visited Marshall the weekend of December 16 and just this week took a trip to Troy State.
"Marshall was a good visit," he said. "I took that last month. Then, this week, Monday and Tuesday I took a visit to Troy State. I just got back last night. I need to think it all through before I decide where I am going.
"I am done with school at Dodge City, so I will be enrolling next week somewhere and beginning my classes. I will have a decision Thursday night on where I am going to go."
Haugabook threw for 2,261 yards and 20 touchdowns during the 2005 season.
He is 6-2 and 225 lbs. and can run a 4.5 40 yd dash

I also found out that he verbally committed to Marshall about a week and a half ago but never signed with them. Now he is saying it is down to Troy and Marshall. This would be huge.

Finally, Troy recruits another Palm Beach County kid. Omar tore up this place. He's from Belle Glade, out by Lake Okeechobee (around 30 miles west of me), where state titles come almst every year.
He was the 2003 Palm Beach County Player of the Year (from among dozens of high schools, mostly 5A and 6A).
From the Palm Beach Post:
Glades Central quarterback Omar Haugabook put up Division I numbers — 3,307 yards passing, 38 touchdown strikes in 11 games...
He beat out current FSU QB Xavier Lee in 2003 as the top passer in the state, and was ranked in the Florida top 100.

This is good news and he is probably the kind of QB that would work best in the new system Franklin will be implementing. I would imagine that with the addition of the new system Troy is very enticing right now for him.

And he is a four star recruit too! I just looked on the prospect update thread and was pleased to see the 4 stars beside his name. I wonder if they will down grade him to 2 or 3 stars if he commits to Troy since we get no respect on the recruiting seen.

He is listed on scout.com as being the No. 2 overall quarterback in the JUCO ranks this year. He is only behind Brent Schaeffer.

My gut feeling says he signs with Troy because of the new OC and new system.

I would think we could beat our Troy for a QB for God sake!!!!
This is how some of the Herd Nation think of Troy, despite being whipped for two consecutive years.
Smart guys. :)

The clips were high school right?
He looked good in those clips. He has a pretty quick release and decent throwing motion. I'm sure he's even better now than then. I hope we get this recruit just to make the herd jealous even though they will never admit it.

Everybody was after him out of high school.
From scanning the Web, it appears several major schools (Kansas State and Nebraska included) are now suddenly finding him again.

If he is definitely deciding tonight KState and Nebraska may be too late.

I think he was lined up to go to Kansas St. until Snyder retired. That left him without any offers until very recently.

I'll fall out of my chair if we complete two passes in a row without an interception. We have not had anything resembling a passing game since we moved to DI.

Any idea CF what time this kid is going to announce? Are we going to be able to find out? Can you call him at home?
Oh, and if he does commit (and sign I guess) how do you think this will affect Chandler specifically and the rest of our recruting class in general?
You are the guru!

Thanks for the compliment. I do not have any way of contacting him, but I wish I did. The only way I will be able to find out is through rivals, scout, or newspapers. Rivals knows that he is going to commit this evening so I am sure they will have an article tonight about where he will go. Thanks again.

Hector,
I don't think JSU is looking for a QB anymore. They got that Stathum guy from Maryland to transfer. That gets them through the next year. Then one of the RS Froshs will be ready for their last 3 years of eligibility to play.

The transfer-down loophole is one thing I miss about I-AA.
Some of you please explain to me why it's fair and legal for a player to transfer down and not sit out a year, but have to sit out a year for transferring up.
Common sense - to me anyway - says a kid should not be penalized for trying to play up (perhaps even above his level), while it might not be right for some of the top players to transfer down and have an instant and perhaps unfair effect on I-AA, D-II and D-III schools.

I think that it is because technically these guys are taking a step down from an upper level and their exposure and everything is already down so much from the 1A level that they cosider that "punishment" enough. Transferring sideways (1A - 1A) or up really gives the athlete much more exposure (even from DivII to 1AA, and they should sit out a year to get that same "punishment".
While I doubt that is really their mindset it makes sense to me.
I love the 1A to 1AA transfers... It really makes 1AA so much fun each year because one team can really make a HUGE turnaround if the right guys come in at the right time.
This guy from Maryland could be what JSU needs right now. Could have a big impact if he is the real deal.

This is an article from December 3.
By Brandon Huffman
JCFootball.com Contributor
Date: Dec 3, 2005
Dodge City (Kan.) College quarterback Omar Haugabook (6-1, 205) played his last JC game today, a bowl game loss to Cisco JC. Despite an outstanding career at DCCC, he is receiving only tepid, at best, interest from D1 colleges.
“I’m not getting recruited like I thought I was, but I’m here, ready to go in December if someone offers me,” said Haugabook. “If I don’t get any offers, than it means that football must be ending for me.”
Surprising, considering the numbers that Haugabook has put up, and the attitude and leadership in which he’s shown for Dodge City.
He’s set several passing records for the Conquistadors, and after going 161-for-279 for 2261 and 20 touchdowns, with another 322 yards rushing and 2 scores, he’s got Dodge City in the Heart Of Texas Bowl this weekend.
“I’m not frustrated because I have one more game left to show what I can do,” said Haugabook.
While the offers have been slow to come in, Haugabook has been hearing from a pair of schools.
“Kansas State and SMU have been calling and I have a trip to Louisiana Tech on the 9th of December that I’m going to be taking,” said Haugabook. “I’m going to play quarterback, that’s for sure.”
With three years to play two, Haugabook said he will have his A.A. in December and be ready for Spring Practice wherever he signs.
“I feel like I should be playing at the D-I Level. I came out here to prove to everyone I could play quarterback, and I think I did. My first year out here, I did good things, and set a lot of records and did more of the same this year,” Haugabook said.
Haugabook prepped at Glades Central High in Belle Glade, Florida, and said that if a school such as South Florida or UCF came calling, he’d happily return to the Sunshine State.

BTW, the Marshall folks are really giving Troy the business (see links below). They easily forget two straight losses and Troy's recent NFL fortunes.

Former Glades Central standout quarterback Omar Haugabook has committed to Troy University.
Haugabook played the past two seasons at Dodge City (Kan.) Community College, and in 2005 led the Jayhawk Conference in passing yards and total offense.

Omar Haugabook
Dodge City Community College
Scouts Grade: 6.5*
Position Rank: QB, #56
* 6.0-6.9: Good Prospect
Player does not dominate in every game, especially when matched up against the top players in the country. Could become a good starter at the Division I level.
