His father was an ex Auburn star and played in the NBA. This guy is a sharpshooter and very athletic. Would be a really high recruit if he would have played on a higher level. I think he is a future star. I also know he was very intelligent and placed in a math tournament. I met this kid on a recruiting tour for the University. Basketball team is easily on the rise and will be a contender soon. GO TROJANS!!! :eatdrink004:

His dad and uncle had pretty nice careers coming out of Brantley.

Is he just a verbal or has he actually signed?

Signing Day is sometime in mid April.

If he is half as good as his dad and his uncle, we have got ourselves a great player. Troy basketball is on the rise!

I hope we can sign him. This program desperately needs some high school players who can play in our system for 4 years.

I hope we get him. As a university and an athletic department Troy has some work to do on the little things. At a game this season, I observed this young man, Mr. Person, with some of his friends/teamates (3 or 4 of them) attending a basketball game in Trojan arena. They were sitting on the outer edge of the reserved seating area in some seats that I never saw anyone sit in all season. An usher made them move to a a general admission section. They very politely moved with no problem. As an organization we need to be on top of things enough where we don't do that sort of thing. Had he not been such a polite, understanding young man, the recruiting process might have been compromised because no one from Troy recognized him and intervened to be sure he was treated well even on an unofficial visit. I do believe Mr. Hartwell is working on getting Troy to a place where we do the little things well. I hope we get there soon.

If it was an unofficial visit, to allow him to continue sit in seats he did not pay for would have been preferential treatment and an NCAA violation. If it was an official visit I am going he Wes sitting up in one of the suites or on the floor.

Some solace...

http://www.al.com/auburnbasketball/index.ssf/2014/04/bruce_pearl_chuck_persons_recr.html

Auburn has two scholarships available for the 2014-15 season. The Tigers are targeting frontcourt players to fill the open spots. Forward Jackson Davis of Lexington, Ky., is near the top of Auburn's list. It doesn't appear former Louisville guard Kevin Ware, who Pearl recruited out of high school during his time at Tennessee, is a priority for the Tigers. Ware plans to transfer to a school closer to his family in Atlanta.

Would this be the highest rated recruit we have signed in basketball? Huge pick up if we get him and should help with local attendance to.

Wes Person's uncle, Chuck Person, was just added to Auburn's new basketball coaching staff a day or two ago.

That's not good.

I don't believe this is just something that happened overnight. His family had to know that the hiring process had started before WP committed last week. Not saying that he will stay committed, but I think the kid made his choice because Pearl hadn't contacted him. The article also stated they're targeting big men...With all that said: cross your fingers, we could lose this one.

Mama lives in Brantley(right?) - mama visited Troy - mama is happy with Troy
and I believe young Wesley understands just how much he with the help of his team can make on Troy U. - I believe he stays!

He should be a good addition to your program... kid's got a chip on his shoulder because he wasn't heavily recruited by the bigger programs, especially Auburn. I'll be interested to see him face UAB this coming season because he attended UAB camps and went on visits, but UAB went after more highly rated recruits.

If Pearl wanted him, they would have offered him way before now, so I think you're safe.

Person's biggest issue was that he peaked at the end of his senior season in an incredibly weak HS division. Playing with and against higher level AAU opponents when the recruiting process really started, he wasn't impressing any programs enough to pull the trigger on offers.
