TROY, Ala. A breakout game by Jeff Mullahey helped push Troy (2-2) past Nicholls (0-3), 77-62, on Tuesday night at Trojan Arena. Mullahey would finish with a game-high 19 points, setting a new career-high.

"That was a good win," head coach Phil Cunningham said. "Their style of play is really unique. They're very patient with their offense and aggressive on defense. It was a good win."

Nicholls made a push in the second half, cutting the lead to five inside the last four minutes. From there, the Trojans put on the pressure, holding the Colonels to just two points in the final four minutes.

"The main thing we told them was to manage the game," Cunningham said. "They were a little tired, we were a little tired, but we didn't let them back in."

Our new coaching staff is already paying off in the fact that we can actually adjust what we do offensively and defensively to a specific opponent. Imagine that, having a gameplan designed to defeat the opponent that you are playing! I am encouraged for the future.

I agree. Maestri ran the program into the ground. Cunnigham will turn it around but we are at least 2 years away. We have to get some high school players in. No excuses now. If facilities sell recruits then basketball, and volleyball have no excuses now.

I think our basketball future is bright. We will be much more competitive in men's and women's basketball over the next few years.
