Any of you planning to make the game Thursday night? I'm looking forward to seeing what Cunningham throws at us after seeing years of Maestri. I'm prepared to see a battle.

I do think it will be very close since it's only the 2nd D1 game of the year for both teams.

Key stat> Trojans outrebounded 53-24, 44% shooting overall. 7/23 from 3pt range.

"Rebounding biggest problem right now" Coach Cunningham. "Need to get more disciplined offensively"

Good game by the Trojans... your guys definitely didn't quit and kept the game interesting. This is not one of UAB's best teams, but they should be much improved from the last two seasons. We have New Mexico up next in the Charleston Classic, so we'll see pretty quickly where we stand nationally.

Best of luck to the Trojans this season.

This is why playing a team like LaGrange does nothing. We played two good teams and got beat soundly. The positives is playing good teams early will make you a better team at the end. We will see some improvement this year but the bigger improvement will come in year 2 and three. Cunnigham has a lot to do to undo the damage of Maestri. Look back to 1991 in football. LB inherited a mess left by Maddox. 5-6 in first year which was about the same as Maddox, 10-1 in year 2 and semi of playoffs in year 3. I believe that basketball will follow similar path. A lot hinges on whether he can recruit some HS players. If not and we go the 100% juco route of Maestri, we will not improve. Even Hartwell expressed the dire need for getting HS players in basketball that can play for 4 years. Here is to improved Trojan basketball

It's going to be a fun year. I think Cunningham is going to do some great things in time.

I think the game vs UCA will tell us a little more where we are this year. They're pretty comparable to our Sun Belt opponents.

It's funny you say that, because four of UAB's top five scorers against Troy were juco players. Washington, who went off for 25pts & 10 rebs was playing just his 3rd game with UAB, as was our pg Frazier with 10pts, 7asts. The other two were with us last season.

Granted, our four signees so far this year are all high school players, but I guess it comes down to the coaches ability to create chemistry among the players and the talent level recruited.

No problem having a mix of both. Problem we had was Maestri flat out refused to recruit high schools so we were 100% juco so every year we lost half the team and every year there was a new group playing together. You need players in your system longer than 2 years to build long term. Mix in a few quality juco players but you have to have the HS players also.
