I don't use it, and probably never will... but I hope for the younger soldier's sake, this is only temporary.

Army Tuition Assistance Suspension

March 8, 2013, 3 p.m. CST

The Secretary of the Army today suspended Tuition Assistance immediately for all soldiers – active duty, Reserve and National Guard personnel. This means that no soldiers may register for classes through the GoArmyEd portal for any upcoming semester, term, or session. For the Army notice, visit https://www.goarmyed.com/public/public_display_news.aspx?news_id=1670&type=5.

Soldiers can initiate or continue GI Bill benefits, or use other funding sources to continue their education. Click here to access TROY’s Veterans Benefits Information.

Troy University students who utilize Army Tuition Assistance will not be able to register for upcoming classes through the GoArmyEd portal. However, Army students who wish to continue their education through Troy University, at their normal tuition rate, may do so by registering for classes through Trojan Web Express...

This is complete bull ****, instead of cutting money for our soldiers, the ones that fight for their lives every day, they should be made to take a damn pay cut

If our president and his spouse would leave those jets on the ground and spend their time trying to do their jobs that money could go to the military guys for their Ed. Oh wait a minute, that's right, a round with Tiger is far more important! Duh!!!

Two weeks ago I saw an interview with a Missouri Congressman outside the Capitol building, and he actually said, on camera, he didn't think they needed a pay cut, and in fact, he thought they didn't get paid enough.

Now, immediately, I was awed by this ballsy statement, however, the statement is probably true...........that is if they would do what they were sent there to do. Not a damn one of them does what they were elected to do though. They get up to DC, and they immediately begin campaigning for their next re-election, and to hell with their constiuency.

And they can't undestand why their (Congress) approval rating is around 10%. They are the problem with this country, and the only fix is term limits. But as long as they are in control, they will never put limits on themselves.

Makes my blood boil every time I think about it.

Truer words may never have been spoken!!

AS for the tuition assistance program, I fear that the US Army is just the first service branch to do so. The others will surely follow.

How SAD is the message from our leadership in Washington, many of whom "spew" their BS about education, and the opportunity for education, etc. and now, to OUTRIGHT CUT this benefit is most disturbng.

Yes, many will say, "well you have your GI bill, you can use that if you want to continue your education" and that is true. What isn't said is that you use your GI bill, while on active duty, you deplete that benefit for education, once you are no longer serving (whether that is retirement or enlistment is finished).

This will NO DOUBT discourage enlisted service members from enrolling in off-duty classes. Thus diminishing their goals of getting their education while on active duty, prohibiting them from applying for OTS (no degree - no application), preparing them for their next life journey, etc.

I just have a difficult time with "law makers" (what an incredible JOKE) speak of education with one bite, then spit it out and discuss 'government cuts' and in this case, CORE EDUCATION DOLLARS to be torn out of the hands of service members. Who now will be required to deminish their GI Bill benefits for education where they will receive less in housing and cost of living - once they can access thier FULL benefit.

This is just straight up BS political posturing, and it SMELLS LIKE IT TOO!!!

God Bless the idiots with no clue!!!!!!!!!!

This may be extrapolating too much, but if you create an environment in which there is no incentive to fight for your country, since it isn't giving a rat's a$$ about you, what better way to take complete control of the destiny of your nation......weaken the Defense, and demoralize it's military. Can you pronounce communism?

Oh, and let's not forget the gun control measures (disarm the citizenry).

But then, maybe I'm reading a bit too much into it.

The Marines were the 1st to cut TA, then Army... you are correct, the otheres may very well follow. However, the House passed a bill that funds the DoD, it will go to the Senate next week. If they can get it through the Senate and signed by the President, it might make these cuts temporary. We will see.

I once proclaimed that he scares me to death but after giving it thought, what really scares me is an electorate that would put a far left liberal like him in that office and then reelect him! I can't comprehend what those folks see as our countries foundations. It's simple, two little documents!

I am right there with you. It amazes me what anybody could see in him. He has never run anything including a lemon aide stand and he is qualified to be President????? His base wants something for nothing and that nothing comes from taking from those who work and want nothing from our government except a military and that is what he wants to take away.

You know, it's fun to bash the president and also food stamp recipients, many of whom are hardworking honest people, but you are aware that that spending is miniscule and that the Big Three costs are Defense, Social Security, and Medicare/Medicaid.

I've been a hardworking taxpayer since the age of 16, including working my way through Troy University while most of my classmates lived off Mommy and Daddy. I am a Republican and voted for McCain in 2008, but given the behavior of the Republicans and the Tea Party in the interim, I had to hold my nose and vote Obama. There was no way I was going to vote for Mitt Romney. I said that from day one. If Ron Paul, John Huntsman, or heck, maybe even Newt Gingrich had won the GOP nomination, I would have happily voted against Obama. But Romney? No way. Not in a million years would I vote for him. I hated him in '08 and nothing changed by '12.

Things haven't gone nearly as badly under President Obama as I thought. We do continue on a steady trajectory of decline, but that is no different than it has been basically since the Reagan administration, outside of a few bubbles during the Clinton years. I rejected it strongly at first, especially considering I was a strong McCain supporter, but I am convinced the level of hysteria surrounding the Obama administration is largely fueled by racism and the most insidious of conspiracy theories. Yes, Obama is a liberal and has enacted liberal policies, like Obamacare. I just had a staunch Republican, one of my fellow party members, tell me they thought the Newtown Massacre was staged. That is incredibly offensive and utterly preposterous. I am an avid shooter and Second Amendment guy. That's the one area Obama has really got me upset, but the legal situation is such that they are going to be able to do far less to regulate firearms than they'd like. notwithstanding the political capital they currently have after the tragic incident.

Is he a socialist? Maybe. But he's not even a far-left liberal. He's definitely not a communist. Anyone who thinks he is needs to read up on your political theory.

Sequestration is frustrating, and cutting benefits to soldiers is a shame. Both parties are to blame for that. Boehner is an idiot and I hope the people of his home state take note of that at SOME point.

Well, if you can "hold you nose and vote for Obama" after seeing him tear this country apart for 4 years and not vote for Romney when all he had done is be incredibly successful and actually amounted to something positive in his life then there is no reason to debate facts and logic with you my Trojan friend. To each his own. That's what is great about this country we have......or at least HAD until this character appeared on the scene out of nowhere. Oh, I paid for Social Security my friend as did my employer for 39 years. Had government not stollen the money that was never intended for anything else it would be in fine financial shape but like everything else the government touches, they destroyed it thanks to LBJ.

Not a communist??? Read up on him. Everyone he has ever been around is a far left radical. Class warfare, everyone needs a fair share, everyone should be equal, take from those who work and give to those who don't?? All out of the Communist Manifesto
