Does anyone know if the SOTS will make the trip to ATL for the GSU game? My daughter will be in her first year of the SOTS and if they are going to ATL I want to make that game.

They won't release the schedule until band camp in August.

Budgetary meetings usually take place towards the end of April for that.

From my experience last year, we will probably take the full band to that game. Don't take my word for it, but we usually take the full band to games that are within 2-4 hours from Troy. (USA and UAB were one-day away trips last year.)

The UGA and GT games several years ago was also a day trip so if the money is there then they should be going.

I would anticipate them to always send the band to USA, UAB, Georgia State, and I certainly hope Georgia Southern. There is no reason the full band should not be at those games anytime our Trojans travel to those places to play. Of course the big question is always money. Hopefully the university is making it a priority to get the full band to those locations. There's no reason they shouldn't make all those trips.

Thought I saw somewhere that we are Georgia State's homecoming game. If that is the case, I don't think the SOTS gets on the field.
But I hope they come to the Dome anyway.
Go Troy!

We were UGA's homecoming game that yea and didn't get on the field, but the directors made sure the full band was there.

I tend to believe if we can make day trips out of them, we'll go to more of them. I think SOTS could go to Miss. State, Ole Miss, GSU, and maybe Duke, not sure

Duke is not a day trip.....

GA. State most likely and one trip to Mississppi - but two is not likely especially since the band has to buy tickets to SEC games and they tend to run $30 per ticket x 425 seats. Stranger things have happened like a kind and genorous donation that sent us to Nebraska when that wasn't even going to be a possibility.

I wouldn't put a donation past, but SOTS doesn't travel with 425, or is that just the number of seats in a whole section, or two? I know we only have about 350 with directors and drivers, probably less than that actually, I've never really understood how it's determined how many tickets are needed.

The last few years, more priority has been placed on sending the band to conference games than the big games. Those conference games are actually more important for us since it's vital to win to get a conference championship.

Each conference has different rules for visiting bands. From what I have been told by a university band director, the SEC requires all non-conference bands to purchase a minimum of 500 tickets. The SunBelt, however, does not make visiting bands purchase tickets.

You have to buy more tickets because one cannot sit in the allotted seat space with a sousaphone, or a bass drum, or a tenor drum etc on in playing position. Therefore, you have to allot space for the larger instruments meaning the purchase of more tickets than actual members of the band.

I knew you had to buy more, I just didn't realize it'd be a hundred more

You haven't looked at a calendar yet, have you? October 31st is a Thursday and that is one of several non-Saturday games Troy has scheduled this year.

And don't forget that TXST is on Black Friday. There are no more Saturday home games after October 5th. Our home game schedule sucks this year.

Did the Miss. St. game get changed from full band to pep band? Making travel plans now for the Ga. St game and I was thinking the band was going to Miss. St also.

Yes, the MSU game plans have been changed. I'm thinking it is because of funds. Most of our trips this year are only two day/one night trips as opposed to the usual three day/two night trips for away games. I believe they've cut hotel costs in half by doing so.

I was really looking forward to taking the full band to MSU, but I'm still glad we're sending a pep band. I think the team does better when they have a group playing for them at away games. :bounce012:

I agree 100% Trumpet, the Sound does inspire the team, the crowd, and even sending our pep band will no doubt out shine the MSU marching band!

Go TROY!
