Hmmmm.......looks like asking this kid to greyshirt bit us in the butt. Of course, it also could have been due to the vast under-utilization of the TE position.

Oh how DT84 wishes this was not the case. :angry013:

Could just be an issue of facilities...new "swag" for the hornets.

I just think it will be hard recruiting a TE when we basically just use them to block. Hopefully we use the TE's some this year because our current TE will be a senior and the other transfered to JSU last year.

Might have been a qualification issue as well.

DT84 was speaking of troys under-utilization of the TE position.

..."Archie had 31 receptions for 502 yards and eight touchdowns for the Spartans this year. He was a first team All-Region selection by the Press-Register"....

Troy hasn't thrown the ball to a TE this many times in 5 years.

So very true. In 2012, we didn't throw a single pass to the TE. In 2011, we three 6 passes to 2 TEs (3 each). In 2010, we threw 3 passes to the TE. In 2009, also 3 passes to the TE. And in 2008, also 3 passes to the TE.

So in 5 years, we've thrown 15 passes to the TE. It appears we have established a quota of 3 per year, and in 2011, when we threew 6, we didn't have any available left in our quota for 2012, so we didn't throw any at all.

Donít get it twisted. It wasnít due to the swag of ASU or eligibility. Troy just reneged on their commitment for a full scholarship starting this fall and ASU was there as an alternative. As much as I love Troy, they dropped the ball on this. There were other schools he couldíve gone to in the Sun Belt that backed off after he verbally committed to Troy, so thatís unfortunate. He had to do whatís best for him so Good Luck at ASU.

Pretty sure the TE that went to JSU played slot in 2011, even though he was listed as TE, due to grade issues with other players. We sat near his parents at the games that year.

Gavin did spend some time in the slot. Also if you sat near his parents you are aware of where he got his height from.

I will never understand why we don't use tight ends on this team. I get the spread offense but they can be a huge asset in the red zone and converting first downs. Our offense is too predictable and very boring at times. I hope we utilized them this year!!!!

I said that to be facetious. Not every kid is going to warm up to a grayshirt. I just don't believe an offer was taken off the table unless that was the case...Troy can't afford the rep of not honoring offers...
