Sun Belt Game of the Week
Troy (3-4) at UL Lafayette (2-5) 5 pm ET
Why to watch: UL Lafayette saved its quickly dying season with a 13-10 win over MTSU thanks to a six-yard touchdown run in with 1:04 to play. With lightweights North Texas (yes, North Texas) and FIU over the next two weeks, the Ragin' Cajuns can go on a nice run with a win over a Troy team desperately trying to get back in the hunt. The Trojans are still reeling after a 27-3 loss to UL Monroe, but at 2-1 are still pushing for the Sun Belt title with two home games in the final three.
Why Troy might win: What stops the option? Talented linebackers. Michael Desormeaux will likely get the start again for ULL with Jerry Babb's shoulder still hurting, and he's not going to throw the ball much. His game is speed and running the option, but Bernard Davis and the rest of the Troy back seven are quick enough to allow many big runs. If Desormeaux has to throw the ball to win, it's going to be ugly.
Why UL Lafayette might win: It's not like the Troy offense is doing much of anything. The Trojans are averaging 13.7 points per game against D-I teams, and that's even playing against North Texas, UL Monroe and FIU. Freshman QB Julian Foster has taken over the reins to try to provide some spark of life, but he's going to have to deal with a fired up Ragin' Cajun line that has one of the Sun Belt's best pass rushes with 20 sacks on the year.
Who to watch: In two games, Foster has thrown for 324 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions. While that might not sound like much, he's Peyton Manning compared to the production from previous starter Carl Meadows. He's also throwing a lot better than Desormeaux, who completed just 51 of 100 passes for 458 yards with five interceptions and no touchdown passes in four games. However, he's a heck of a runner with 367 yards including a 174-yard day against Arkansas State.
What will happen: It's homecoming for ULL, but Troy won't be a good guest. Don't expect many fireworks in a defensive slugfest.
CFN Prediction: Troy 17 ... UL Lafayette 13 ... Line: UL Lafayette -3 | Make your pick and compete against others
Must See Rating: (5 lock yourself in a room to watch - 1 Commander in Chief) ... 2
Final Score: Troy 18 ... FIU 13
