TROY – Channeling his inner Spud Webb, Troy’s smallest player helped turn the game around for the Trojans against Western Kentucky.

Alan Jones, a 5-foot-9 junior who is generously listed at six feet tall, scored 18 points as the Trojans rallied from 11 down early in the second half to beat the Hilltoppers 83-77. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for Troy (8-15, 3-9 Sun Belt). It’s the first time ever that Troy has swept the season series over WKU (8-17, 4-8).

The play that brought the crowd to life was when Jones got a steal and two-handed dunk with 11:25 left, tying the game at 50. A visiting reporter compared Jones to Webb, the former NBA basketball player who won a slam dunk competition despite standing just 5-foot-7.

“It sparked us a lot,” Troy point guard Will Weathers said. “When he dunked it, I think everybody was off the bench and almost on the court. His intensity, when he came in, lifted us up to another level.”

A much needed victory for the trojans. The kids always play hard, its not the talent.
