Wiregrass athlete commits to Troy (http://dothaneagletroy.blogspot.com/2011/10/wiregrass-athlete-commits-to-troy.html)

One of the Wiregrass’ top athletes is staying close to home to play college football.

Elba’s Michael Lindsey, a do-it-all player for Class 2A’s No. 1 Tigers, committed to Troy on Saturday while visiting for the Trojans’ 24-23 win over UAB. He was also a visitor to last week’s 38-35 Troy win over Middle Tennessee.

“I just felt at home,” Lindsey said. “I like the atmosphere before the game. I like the coaching staff. It’s close to home, and I wanted to go ahead and commit.”

Lindsey, who is 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds, was Elba’s starting quarterback as a freshman, but has played running back, wide receiver and some defense for the Tigers since then. He said Troy is recruiting him as a slot receiver.

Seen this kid on a football show when I was up for Football night and Fan Day. The Troy coaches say he reminds them of Jerrell Jernigan. I think this kid is going to be a great player and we get 4 years from him just like JJ.

What Troy can't seem to do is recruit high school DL?? Just wondering on this. Osi, Demarcus...why can't we find some more.

I am from Elba too. This kid is very talented. I think he has been playing on the high school level since he was in the 7th grade when he played at Pike County High School in Brundidge before transfering to Elba.

Great addition, very JJ esque in some of those moves. Wow, I could hardly watch that video because of that song....made my brain hurt.

Glad to see we are getting some of the local talent. Definitely looked like Jerrel in a few of those highlights..

Question I am wondering about. When I was at Troy we had great players out of Montgomery..namely Mike Turk and Freddie Thomas. Is there no talent in Montgomery any more or is Troy not recruiting that area any more..and what about Prattville?

I'm with ya there. We have a total of 4 guys on the roster from the Montgomery/Prattville area. Seems like we would be getting more talent from the area for sure.

Tuscaloosa, Ala.--Elba High School senior Michael Lindsey rushed 22 times for 157 yards and scored four touchdowns Friday to lift the Tigers to a 34-14 win over Tanner in the Class 2A finals. The state crown was the first for Elba (15-0) since 1989 and only the second in school history.

Lindsey’s first touchdown of the game for Coach Scott Rials' Tigers came in the first quarter when he grabbed a 46-yard pass from Austin Johnson to climax an 86-yard, nine-play drive and put the Tigers ahead 7-0. Tanner (14-1) bounced back to take a 14-7 lead on touchdown runs of two and nine yards by Kyle Shoulders and Landon Stephens, respectively.

Elba's running back Michael Lindsey and coach Scott Rials headline this year's Dothan Eagle Super 12 football team, which is featured in Tuesday's print edition.

Lindsey was named Player of the Year and Rials Coach of the Year after Elba's undefeated season, culminating with the Class 2A state championship....

TROY has a good one in this athlete. I can't wait to see him don the cardinal, silver, and black!
