I was listening to WMSP in Montgomery this morning and Ed Sterling from Las Vegas who handicapps college and pro football said that he likes Troy to definitely cover the 10-point spread against UAB and to possibly win the game outright. He said that the final score would look something like 13-10. That's interesting because my prediction for the game is 16-14 in favor of Troy.

Sterling said not to be fooled by the UAB/UT game last week. He said that history has shown that UT usually plays very soft in non-conference home games early in the season. Sterling's reservations about Troy center around the Trojan offensive line play. He said this is the most important ingredient to whether or not Troy will win the game.

Sterling, by the way, is one of the best handicappers in Vegas and was perfect last week.

Sounds good but we will do more than cover the spread. The Blazers are in for a rude awakening.

Most of the sportsbooks out here have UAB at 9.5

It doesn't sound like much of a drop but it takes around 10,000 dollars worth of action to move the line.

Looks like folks are wagering on the Trojans.

Actually... the line opened at UAB by 7 or 7.5 and has now gone to about 10.0 so people are banking on UAB to cover.

It's been 10 in all the places I've seen since the beginning of the week.

No ...the line has gone in UAB's favor. I understand why you all have faith in your team, but do you really expect the betting folks to believe in them. UAB is CLEARLY the better team on paper...which is what they often go by.

Back on Sept. 5th, STL Blazer made this post:

"Opened up at 7 1/2 and is now up to UAB -10."

When Troy won by 11?

When Troy won by 11?

Uh... what does that have to do with this game? For real though, does anyone remember the line from our game two years ago?

This is a good site that shows opening lines, current lines, etc. I think STLBlazer got it from here. I normally check the lines at this site.

What was the line going into Tennessee last week?

Did your guys still go and play anyway?

There isn't a lot of science involved in these lines, especially for relatively small schools like ours. You guys played on regional TV last week and had a good showing, therefore you have betting momentum on your side.

I can't think of any times that we have failed to cover when the line was 10 or more. Shows me that the numbers are garbage and just driven by name recognition or in our teams' cases- who showed up on Sportscenter last in a near upset recap.

If you want Vegas odds would you go to St. Louis and get them? I don't think so.

The line has never been below 9, and I've seen it as high as 11. I use several different sports book sites, and I got Troy at 10 1/2 on Tuesday. Yes, the money is being heavily laid on Troy.

Great! I'll take Troy at +23 1/2. For the sake of the law, I'll PM you the details. Will you give everyone this same deal?

You must be smoking the same stuff that coach of yours got busted for having last season.

As you all probably figured, dfarr is all talk and backed out. These UAB fans talk big, but in the end I think they are a little concerned.

and take their medicine if they lose tomorrow. If for some reason they win, we will hear from them evryday for the next 5 years. "Remember that one time we beat you? Who cares if you have beaten us every year since then. Those games don't count b/c we has not been 1-a program long enough. Blah, blah, blah...."

Blazer85

The better question is will you admit you lost or will you come up with every excuse under the sun to try to comfort yourselves in your pool of misery?

TrojanWar

We have no problem admitting defeat. It's not us saying we will win by 4 touchdowns. If you lose, how will you react? I'm guessing about the same as last time! :P

Oh whatever. The one loss UAB gave Troy you guys have been making excuses for ever since. It doesnt matter if we beat you by 1pt or by 30pts, SOME of you will still be trying to make excuses.

Something like this:

Troy wont get passed the line that quick unless it's a designed screen play where we LET them through.

How is that making excuses? It will be OBVIOUS when it's a designed screen play, so where's your point?

Will it be by design when Hackney is flat on his back?

If the ball is in the hands of a WR headed for the endzone, then absolutely.

Alrighty then. dfarr's confidence broke, has yours?

Since when did you begin speaking for dfarr? I think he's just as confident as ever. I've said long ago that I wouldnt be surprised to see Troy make it close. UAB should win in a blowout, but Troy could keep it close. Regardless, I dont see Troy pulling out the win... no matter how good you may claim to play at your house.

he's saying that because he wanted to bet me $50 and me giving him 23 1/2 points. while i do see us beating the crap out of troy, i dont have $50 to lose if we only win by 21.

 It's all good... we know. And most Troy fans know too, but they can handle the UAB folks on here saying what some of them are thinking. Troy is more concerned about this game than they've probably ever been about going up against UAB and it's obvious in the defensiveness of their fans.

You are right, we are more concerned this year. Both teams are better than they have ever been in the past, but for you UAB people to come over here and post in every thread on our board for over a month is just rediculous. Not only that, but to have you guys making crazy predictions all the time just told us that you all can't be the cream of the crop among UAB fans. If dfarr honostly had that much confidence, $50 would be small change. You only have reservations when you think you might lose. If you are 100% certain on something, then there is no reason to have reservations. That's what I was trying to prove with dfarr...at it worked.

no, im not confident enough to bet $50 giving up 24 points. if we were going straight up then i would have taken the bet. i was positive that uab was going to win.
