His team nearly pulled off what would have been the biggest win in school history on Saturday. But as UAB head coach Watson Brown sat in an interview room after the Blazers' 17-10 loss to No. 3 ranked Tennessee, Brown was ready to look forward to games against Troy and Jacksonville State.

"I think we've got the biggest part of the season coming up," Brown said. "We've got two in-state schools that are big, big games for us. We better be good. We need to get back on the bus and be good, because we've got two huge football games."

UAB visits Troy on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Running back Dan Burks' hamstring injury may not be as serious as first thought. Brown said the junior running back is probably doubtful for Troy.

"He'll probably tell you he's questionable," Brown said.

Cornerbacks Carlos Hendricks and Will Evans are fine after suffering injury scares. Brown said Evans got "dinged in the head" while making a tackle on a punt return. He stayed out for most of the second half before going back on the field when Hendricks went down with cramps in the final minutes.

"Carlos is fine," Brown said on Sunday. "I thought he might have pulled a calf muscle the way he went down. All we could see on tape was he planted and went down like he was shot."

Brown singled out the special teams play of Will Dunbar. The sophomore defensive back had two tackles on kickoffs.

"He really stuck out," Brown said. "We've got to figure out a way to get him on the field more."

Brown praised his young linebackers for their play against the run. Their play against the pass was another story.

"Their pass coverage was not very good," Brown said. "A lot of those crossing routes and boots throwing to the back in the flat were their coverage. I'm proud of the way they played the run, but they have to be better against the pass."

UAB fans should take this to heart. Quit pounding your chests about how you played the great pumpkin and ONLY LOST by seven. Only losers are satisfied with moral victories. See UAT last year. UA'sB better bring their A game or they will leave with a loss and an 0-2 record to what is an "obviously inferior" team.
