So, I got kinda bored today (not hard to do during the summer in Troy) and decided to drive around and snap a few shots of some of the construction projects around campus. The *new* water tower, Bibb Graves, and the new Dining Facility are included. All of the pictures were taken with my phone, so don't expect some sort of professional SLR quality. Also, the forum only allows me to put 4 pics in a post at a time. Any of the 4 pics posted should lead you to my Photobucket site where you can view the rest. There are only about 20 pictures that include the construction updates.

Enjoy!

I take it Bibb Graves is scheduled to open this fall as well? It's about time to bid farewell to McCartha and it's neglected legacy.

The Fall Schedule of Classes (http://troy.troy.edu/classschedule/fall2011/undergrad_fall11.pdf) lists Bibb Graves as a location for many courses, such as Business, Leadership, and Freshman Orientation. So, I would assume the University is finally planning to reopen the building this Fall. McCartha is 'on deck' so to speak. "GAB II" will be the next construction (aka eyesore) project on the Quad.

Wow campus is going to look awesome in August!

What I can't wait for is if they actually turn Saritan Hall into a fitness center! The only thing Troy lacks is a quality workout facility for the students.

Arrow, after the arena is complete, Sartain WILL become a student rec/fitness center. That's already been stated by the administration.

It's good to hear that ole Bibb Graves is back... Troy doesn't feel right if people aren't streaming out of her and her chimes aren't announcing the quarters of the hour.

McCartha will be missed by some for its service and for the memory of the great professor whom it commemorates by more, but the poor building is beyond its service. I hope that the new wing of Patterson will allow for more program expansion. I would love to see Music, Dance and Drama be able to use all of Smith Hall. It's hard to recruit higher quality students to the university with programs sharing buildings and the university proclaiming to be at the top levels of every field.

I hope that someday soon we can get Wright Hall and Lee Natatorium, Malone Hall, and Wallace Hall updated for more efficient use. They are the last academic buildings that need updating.

I'll have a pic up later, but it appears the water tower has had a nice horizontal stripe added around it now. Also, the CHHS side of the tower has an additional logo with the 'TROY' letters in orange & blue to match their school colors.

Why can't they change CHHS colors? Every time I see people wearing those colors I think Auburn is in town... They don't necessarily have to change to cardinal, white, and silver. Just something else.

Sousa, just an FYI. SAGA will become the new home to Drama and Dance after the completion of the new band facility. It was announced at the CCFA awards ceremony this past spring. They say they will be redoing the entire indoor facilities.

That will be awesome! Now if we can just move English out of Smith and let music completely take over Smith, that would be a dream come true for me!

PC, were there any other things they announced? Sometimes campus improvements don't get announced to the alumni until it is starting. Either that or I'm just not looking in the right places anymore.

The only other thing of note that I can remember is that The English department is now a part of the College of Communication instead of it being in whatever dept is used to be in.

If you click on the above link, you can see the master plan for all 4 Alabama campuses. There's a lot of things that could be changing in the next 20 years. Look for yourselves. I found it last night and was amazed.

Interesting. The 2015 Master Plan for the Main Campus has several plans for parking structures around campus. Just looking at the goals they put in place for 2015, they've got a ways to go...

Still, it's very exciting!

A lot of this looks exciting and I wish it would be done before I graduate. What intrigues me the most is the new peforming arts center and the champions plaza!!!! :thumb:

Was at Troy this weekend talking with someone there and they said that Bibb-Graves might not be ready by the fall...problem with the construction company and the dining hall might not be quite ready either. Anyone know this to be true???

All I know is that the dining hall has to be finished so that they can start on the new band hall.

Construstion on the new band hall is supposed to begin next week. I think the new plans say that they're just going to tear down the old band room and start from the ground up

Oh really? That's a big change. Can you take any photos of the new plans? I'm not in Troy for the summer.

There aren't any new plans, I was in the director's clinic when Dr. Walker was talking about it. This is just heresay from that clinic, Uncle James did say they were or would have to completely redo the plans, so idk what's going to happen, but I'll try to keep everyone posted on it

This is a very exciting time for Trojans. To see all the potential growth for the university makes me proud to be a Trojan.

I noticed that the master plan has the Trojan Arena across the street from the stadium where the Armory is. Now that has changed will the school still aquire the Armory land and how will they utilize it? Is there an updated Master plan?

I think we need another park, one even bigger and prettier than what we have now (SW)

Trojan_Thunder

Yes, we do need a new expanded park. It would be great to have a man made pond with ducks. There's a park up in Florence that has a little train ride around the park that the kids love. The city of Troy needs to think a little different when it comes to families and students. The University shouldn't have to bear most of the changes in the town.
