Dublin, GA’s Skyler Williams is a wide receiver prospect from the mid-state. He already holds his first D-1 offer and a host of other schools are showing him interest as well.

“I’ve got one offer from Troy State. Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Georgia, Clemson, Florida, Louisville, Ball State and Central Florida are also recruiting me,” Skyler Williams said.

Who does he favor the most at this time?

“The top right now is Georgia, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Troy State. I don’t have a favorite yet.”

What stands out about those schools?

Georgia: “It’s a real good atmosphere and they get after it hard in the weight room.”

Georgia Tech: “I like their playing style and Coach Gailey.”

South Carolina: “I just like Steve Spurrier and his spread offense.”

Troy State: “It’s a quiet town where you can focus on your academics and they’ve offered me.”

Skyler has already set his first official visit.

“Jacksonville State in Alabama wants me to come up there on September 29th for an official visit.

Williams is recovering from an injury he suffered in the first game of the year.

“I’ve been out with a knee injury. There’s something wrong with my meniscus and they haven’t told me when I can get back in there yet. I jumped up for an interception and I tried to keep from coming down on my ankle wrong but my knee buckled.”

East Laurens lost the player it could least afford to lose when quarterback/defensive back Skyler Williams was lost for the season with a torn ACL and a torn meniscus against Appling County.

"Our big play threat is gone," said Falcons coach Vic Thigpen. "He had jumped up to get an interception and came down wrong. No one even hit him."

Thigpen hopes the Falcons can rally from the injury. Williams' brother, Jimmy, will take over at quarterack, and Sergio Halsey will also see time.

"We're going to have to do some things different," Thigpen said. "We're probably going to become a better team, because we won't be able to rely on him."

Williams had already received an offer from Troy State, and was getting looks from Georgia, Clemson and Georgia Tech. Thigpen hopes the injury won't cause schools to lose interest in Williams.

"Some schools will back off a player because of a knee injury," he said. "But he'll come back stronger than ever."

Skyler Williams received his first D-1 offer last month from Troy State. The South Georgia Wide Receiver recently received another offer from a college in the state of Alabama.

“I just got another offer from Jacksonville State,” said Skyler Williams. “I got that offer about two weeks ago. They offered me in basketball and football. I’d like to play both sports in college. They said I could.”

Williams has added one school to his wish list.

“I still don’t have a leader. My schools are basically the same. Jacksonville State is now on there too.”

A torn ACL in August ended Williams’ senior football season. He hopes to be ready for the other two sports he competes in for East Laurens High School.

“I went into rehab and fixed everything. I’m walking without crutches now. They said if I come back strong I’ll be able to play basketball. In track I just want to work on my strength so I can be ready for college.”

Please tell me athletes are not actually considering JSU over Troy. I know he wants to play two sports, but good grief.

Skyler Williams is continuing to rehabilitate his injured knee. The speedy athlete from Middle Georgia missed out the Friday before last when he would have been able to face arch rival West Laurens and Demaryius Thomas.

“I wanted to face him bad,” Skyler Williams said. “I wanted to be able to play and lock him down. Me and him were talking back and forth all summer. I wish I had been out there to face him.”

Williams is working hard to get back to full stride.

“It’s going real good. I’m supposed to get a brace next month so I can start running. I plan to make it back for basketball in January for the playoffs.”

Williams has offers From Jacksonville State and Troy State. Are there two he is hoping to receive offers from?

“If I was offered by Georgia or South Carolina, I’d have a hard time turning down one of those schools. I’m nearly positive that I’d commit to one of them if they were to offer. It would be a dream to play at one of those schools.”

Are Georgia and South Carolina leaders for Williams?

“Yeah I guess you could say Georgia and South Carolina are my leaders. I’ve been feeling that way for a couple of weeks now. Georgia Tech would probably be second behind them.”

Lucky for us Georgia is just about done with recruiting. They have signed 24 players already.

I know it is an evil that must be tolerated but I hate playing second fiddle to the BIGGER D1-A schools in the recruiting arena. I long for the day when we can consistently sign 4 and 5 star athletes.
