I talked to her early this morning and she was doing ok - though things were just starting to get nasty then.

Hey Kiwan...everything is finally starting to calm down. As most of you know, I work at the Emergency Operations Center during hurricanes, so I'm just about as safe as one can be during these things.
I'm not sure how my home has held up, I live toward downtown and have seen a lot of reports on the intense flooding thats been going on.

I'm working in Foley and living in Loxley, so if you need any thing feel free to let me know. How is your house?

I'm told everything at the house is fine...it's just HOT since there's no electricity. I haven't been home since Saturday, but if the electricty is back up this evening I hope to be able to go home.

Thanks for the offer, *******. Hopefully, we'll be back up today. I should have bought one before the storm, but with me working at an EMA office, I haven't had a big need for one before now.

Just an idea, but it really works well. Get some deep-cycle marine batteries and a power inverter and you can maintain electricity for a long time. This is a much cheaper alternative to generators and when the generators are gone, it might be easier to find these things. Obviously you can't supply power to your entire house, but you can power a small refridgerator, some lights, and maybe a few needed appliances.

I can get you a 5,500-watt generator for less than half than down here.

Dont tell me that!
Now, the next challenge, finding gas. Mobile County is dry and Baldwin County is getting close.

Sarahbelle,
We have a borrowed generator that we might could loan you ifyou haven't gotten one yet. We also may have some gasoline as well. I'm pretty sure that Baldwin County is dry by now. I didn't see a single station with gas between Foley and Loxley. Please let me know if you need anything. Call my cell if you need it fairly quickly, as I don't stay around this computer too much. (334)372-7744. My family is willing to help anyone in any way and we are not too far away from any of the hardest hit.
