Statement of Troy University

Troy University officials are urging all students, faculty and staff on the Troy Campus to exercise extreme caution following an off-campus assault of a student on Tuesday, Jan. 11. The City of Troy Police Department issued a statement Tuesday morning and is investigating the incident along with the Pike County Sheriffís Department and Troy University Campus Police.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) prevents the University from releasing the victimís name or other personal information to the public.

Troy City Police notified Troy University officials of the assault around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday and student services personnel met the victimís family at Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery. In addition, Dean of Student Services Herbert Reeves said the Universityís counseling services are available to assist students who are friends of the victim.

Troy Police reported that the incident began on Smith Street in Troy and the victim reported the assault from a residence on Pike County Road 7735.

Local authorities are looking for a 2006 Chevy Cobalt which witnesses say may have picked up the assailant.

Mike THANKS for letting people know about this! I have known this student's mother for years and have met her father once. They are a nice family and need our prayers! I will not go into detail, but the young lady is very fortunate to have survived this attack. She lives about two blocks from campus where the abduction began. Pray for her healing, both physical and emotional!!! A parent's worst fear has happened and hopefully the law enforcement agencies working on this will get a break soon!
