Trojans Ready To Open 2005 Football Camp
Ricky Hazel 08/06/2005

TROY, Ala. After two days of paper work, physicals pictures and meetings, the 2005 Troy University football squad will hit the practice field today for the first of 29 practice sessions leading up the September 3 opener against Cal Poly at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium.

"In this day of NCAA mandates on reporting, we all come in together, then we take care of paperwork and pictures the first two days," head coach Larry Blakeney said. "We hit the field for real on Saturday. Most of our 105 guys are here and we have another group ready to come in when school starts, if not earlier. We are pleased with the scholarship players and I believe this is the best group of walk-ons we have ever had. I am eager to get out there and see what we have."

Upon arrival on Thursday the players were issued equipment, had physicals and took care of paper work. Friday started with picture day, which was not dampened by steady rain. After lunch the team participate in media training with the assistance of Tommy Hicks from the Mobile Register, Melissa Lee from WAKA in Montgomery and Aaron Taylor from Troy TV.

With all of the preliminaries out of the way, the Trojans will hit the practice field for the first time this afternoon. Single practices are scheduled each day through Wednesday, August 10, which will be the first day in full pads. Practices are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. and run through 8:30 p.m. and are open to the media and public.

The 2005 Trojans training camp will include just three days of two-a-day practices. Those dates are August 11, 15 and 17. Morning practices on those dates will be from 9:45 a.m. until 11:45. The second practices on those dates will be at 5:30 p.m.

The Trojans have scrimmages scheduled for Saturday, August 13, at 4 p.m., and Saturday, August 20, at 5:30 p.m.

Sunday, August 21, is the only scheduled off day for the Trojans before game week. Troy University opens for classes on Monday, August 22. Fan Appreciation Day is scheduled for Sunday, August 28, at 4 p.m. at Trojan Arena.
