How about a tournament played in the new Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery every year featuring teams from just the state of AL. Let it be near the first of the year before conference play starts and ensure that conference foes will be in opposing brackets. Top seed gets a bye, Div. 1 teams with highest ranking last year are invited first.

Sounds good, but Troy is already involved in the Wiregrass Baseball Classic in Dothan during the early season. Don't forget that we did beat Iowa and Ohio State this year in the tournament.

I too like the idea alot - but with the wiregrass tournament it just makes it tough to have both. If it can be done I am all for it, as I would think it would be great for the fans.

Nothing against the Wiregrass Tournament, but Riverwalk Stadium is a much nicer venue. I'd like to see a tourney there.

Hey Hector, I agree but I just don't see The Wiregrass Tourny going away anytime soon. It generates too much revenue from a sponsorship standpoint to do away with it. From a fans perspective, Riverwalk would be much better. Not too many people go to the tourny in Dothan. If you were to attend the games as a fan you would say it's not much of a success, but I will assure you that it is from a money point of view.

As far as money is concerned, I'll bet you if that tourney organizers worked at it, they could find sponsors to put up the $$$ to put on a tourney at riverwalk as easy, or even easier, than in Dothan. it's a nicer venue, in a bigger population center. The money shouldn't be tough.

You would be surprised. Money can be tough to get out of businesses in Montgomery. Dothan has a great advertising background and local businesses are more than willing to pay big bucks to get their name on something like the Wiregrass Classic. Sometimes, population has nothing to do with it.

Let's not forget something here. Montgomery already has several colleges it deals with, where as Dothan just has us and Wallce Community College. I worked with the current Mayor for a few years before coming to Troy, and I've seen him at a heck of a lot more Troy venues than I have Bobby Bright. Dothan is more willing to work with us than Montgomery is and for me, that's good emough.
