TROY students become Limelight semi-finalists

TROY – Twelve student semi-finalists acts will compete in Troy University’s Illium Records second annual Limelight event.

Illium Records, a student-run recording label that serves as a laboratory for the John M. Long School of Music’s Music Industry Program, conducts the competition that searches for TROY’s “next musical sensation,” according to Sara Sparks, a student who serves as the label’s director of marketing.

“The audience will be playing a big role in this competition,” she said. “It’s not just a competition where you go watch and see who comes out on top – it’s up to the audience to fill the last finalist position.”

The semi-finalists will take to the stage April 12 in the Claudia Crosby Theater on the Troy Campus. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the competition begins at 7:30 p.m.

Last year’s winner, Brendan Moze, an international student from Trinidad, had his single “Sarcastic Way,” released in fall 2009.

The semi-final round will whittle the acts down to just six that will move into the final round, scheduled for April 21 in the Davis Theater on the Montgomery Campus. Five finalists will be chosen by guest judges, while the sixth act will be chosen by popular vote.

Tickets for the April 12 show are $13 for general admission in advance and $15 at the door. TROY student tickets are $3 and $5 respectively. Tickets may be purchased online at www.illiumrecords.com (http://www.illiumrecords.com/).
