I was in Cocoa Beach all last week with my work and I got to watch the Orlando television news a good bit. The big sport's story locally was the UCF board of trustees voting to build a new 45,000 seat football stadium near UCF's campus. It will be located in a predominantly residential area and because of this, many local residents expressed concerns over this. However, in the end, the UCF trustees voted to approve the stadium. It will cost in the neighborhood of $45million. I saw the proposed design and it looks like it's going to be very nice. It will be a full-bowl type of stadium with no open endzones.

Very nice looking. Its press box/club level won't be as big as Troy's.

I like the way the brick facade wraps up a metal stadium and makes it look more "permanent". Troy should eventually do that.

I just hope none of MY tax dollars goes to pay for this.

Let's be the first to defeat UCF in its new digs. :)

I agree, Markey. But first, they have to be willing to play us. (On a home-and-home basis of course).

I agree, but UCF was one of the only places I enjoyed being the away team because of great Troy support in Florida.

Yes, We have had good support in central Florida. And, we have had a lot of success against UCF on the gridiron. Truth be known, that drives 'em crazy.

I would think they would approve to buy a new football team before spending the funds on a stadium. Of course, that's just me.

Hey now, we did approve to buy a new football team. Unfortunately, new football teams don't win in one year. We're gonna need probably another one before we bring some respect back to the program in 2006.

I'm well aware of the UCF and Troy rivalry (although I wasn't there for it). The infamous "noise penalty" and a clutch win to advance to the playoffs for UCF. Aside from that game, I think Troy has a 2 game advantage. I hope that the rivalry could start again - it was so close to happening before realignment!

Don't wory Bob, this won't be funded by any tax dollars, student fees or anything. The financing will all be through projected revenues (tickets/parking/concession) based on a conservative 23,000-25,000 a year average. Not too risky when we averaged 19,000 for an 0-11 "team" playing a boring MAC slate.

Things are looking up for UCF Football, and they are on the up for Troy Football and I hope the teams play each other soon. If ECU or Memphis leave C-USA, you all should be next in line. I don't know why we took SMU over Troy anyway.

Good luck with the plan. The stadium looks nice on paper.

I hope Troy eventually adds an outer facade to the entire stadium (as shown in the UCF drawings), similar to what is shown on the outside of the press box-stadium club, fitness center building.

An outside facade would add so much more class to our already great stadium!
