I'll be in Dothan for the Womens A-Sun tournament.

Any recommendations on things to do while there? I'll be limited to where I can get on foot/hotel shuttle so probably nothing outside of that city.

Thanks in advance Trojans!

PS - Your team has a great shot of coming away with the NCAA birth. Our late season injuries are obviously serious as we've dropped 3 of our last 4.

I'm from Dothan....If you're looking for food/hotels....you'll have NO problem finding it.
Plenty of restaurants and plenty of hotels...

There's a HUGE selection of restaurants...
If you want a good steak or rack of ribs...go to Longhorn.
Want some wings? (and a little eye candy) Go to Hooters...
Wanna get wasted? There's a few places downtown that can take care of that....etc...

There's nothing particularly spectacular about Dothan...you can ride around town and find all the funny color peanuts?
Also, if you get lost in Dothan...you're a moron...it's a giant circle, and the Civic Center is right in the middle of it....

Any questions...PM me....even though you're an A-hole sometimes...

PS...about walking around on foot....Downtown: yea....
anywhere else: you'll get run over...

Tisk Tisk TUEngineer...the best steaks in Dothan are at Conastoga

You should be sure to check out the Art Museum behind the Civic Center and make sure to see all the murals around downtown.

I got it covered! :D

Oh yea...the murals are GORGEOUS!

Yes, I told him to just ride around the west/northwest part of the circle...and right off 231 heading towards Troy, he'll find PLENTY....

Hooters > Things & Wings

You are all forgetting the #1 place to eat in Dothan. That would be Hunt's of course. It's a local tradition and you can't go wrong. They have the best raw oysters around and in my opinion their steak is 100 times better than Conestoga. As far as our local chain food goes, Outback is my favorite.

One thing you should keep in mind if you are coming to Dothan, this is Troy country! Also, don't plan to be impressed with the Dothan Civic Center. There's not much to it.

I have a better idea. Why don't you just stay down there in Florida.

eww...I hate Hunt's...it's nasty...

The Civic Center is....well...mediocre...capacity is 3500...but more for basketball games b/c they pull out the big sections of folding seats. Last I heard, the city was doing surveys and such for a new arena....which would be GREAT for Dothan...

Funny...going to a Seafood resturant to get a steak? and claiming it's better than a Steak House? My My My, what's this world coming to?

Thanks Engineer and everyone. We're staying right on the Circle, so it should be good times.

If any of you are at the tournament, would love to say hey.

I'm happy to hear Dothan has some home grown places.

Someone from any significant city in Florida is really going to laugh if you tell him the best place in town to eat is a chain like Longhorn, and the best place to drink is a chain like Hooters.

These places are probably on every corner of Florida.

Bob...like I said...I PMed him a list of restaurants....and the best places to drink are the bars and such downtown (although, I dont drink...so I really have no idea)...Hooters just has the best wings in town...since Buffalo's in Dothan closed...

******* - you're right! I think you said you guys ate at Bennigan's at the UCF game...so you know that we're pretty spoiled up here as far as commercialized America, even by Florida standards. I'm from Coral Springs, so there's no escaping our good friends at Darden etc.

But you also probably know these places are just glorified fast food joints! Even half the stuff you get from places like Longhorn or Outback come frozen. That's why I want to try out some of the smaller mom and pops. Between you all, I have a pretty solid list to fill in my few days in Dothan.

Thanks again.

I love Beef O Brady's...a fun, laid back sports-themed restaurant.

I've been to two Troy/UCF games in Orlando. Both times I've eaten Bennigans both before and after the game. I think ******* likes it.

Sarah,
Beef's in Dothan has really gone down hill and it shows. Not too many people eat there anymore. I can't believe some of you don't like Hunt's. You might have to wait an hour or two to get in, but it's well worth it. Conestoga is way overrated in my opinion. There are chain restaurants with better steak. Hey, my wife does not cook and we eat out almost every night.

As far as a new Civic Center is concerned, it's all talk. They have been blowing hot air for years. Until the I-10 connector is figured out and built (another laugh) I don't think the city will make any major improvements. Hey, I work for the newspaper so I hear all the rumors and ideas the city might or might not be considering. Sowell has to go. The list of replacements at this point is no better either. I know Saliba was a real @ss, but he was a much better mayor.

Agreed...whenever they figure out what the hell they're gonna do w/ the I-10 connector...no big city projects like a new arena will be done. and yes...Sowell isn't that great...He's a really nice guy, I went to HS with his neice...but I think he was too young to be mayor. I'm a "youngin" but I remember Saliba, and he got the job done. I hear rumors that Jason Rudd is gonna run for mayor...blah...he's a doofus...

Longhorn Ribs: best in Dothan! :D

My most favorite place to eat in Dothan is El Palacio...even though it's in Ozark.

Ms. Boomers and Poplar Head Mule Co Pub & Grill are really good and local.

I havent been to BOB's in a while, so I'm not sure how much they've gone down...but my dad still eats there all the time.

How could we forget Larry's? It's a local favorite for sure. How long has it been since you were in Dothan Sarah? Ms. Boomers has been closed for a long time. I'm not 100% certain, but I thought Poplar Head had closed as well.

If you want a great local bar, Houligan's is the ticket. It's a great little "Cheer's" type bar.

I moved to Mobile in 2002.

Wow...are there any local restaurants left in Dothan?
