there are broken links all over the place. Why in the heck would the University launch a site and not have it fully functional? I thought our leaders were trying to enhance our image not make us look bush league.

I would not have thought Dr. Hawkins would allow such a thing since image is his priority. Anyway, it looks good unless you try to use it.

What's new about it? It looks the same to me. What am I missing here? The only thing different is that Steve Dennis has been added and Scott Farmer is gone.

Where? I clicked on about 25 links just to test herinmasters claim. All the links I clicked worked fine. Am I missing something here? I think the site looks great. It is simple to navigate, and is a big improvement.

I found a bunch of broken links as well, and some pages (such as the alumni association events and alumni welcome) are blank.

http://www.troy.edu/alumni/events.htm

There is no alumni affairs director's message. Maybe because it hasn't been changed since before Homecoming?

http://www.troy.edu/alumni/directorsmessage.htm

Most of the alumni chapter links are gone (maybe because the sites have vanished?).

I was just embarrassed because I e-mailed the contract information for the Central Florida alumni chapter and was immediately told by a friend in Orlando that the chapter hasn't been in existence for some time. The link info was never removed or corrected.

How many other alumni links are bad?

Did anyone here ever discover what that alumni chapter leadership conference was all about? Certainly, even some of our alumni chapter leaders on this board did not know about it.

The virtual campus tour forces the viewer to navigate to an outside source, register and jump through a bunch of hoops. Prospective students will not do that.

The "prospective students" and "events calendar" buttons go nowhere.

The Trojan Web Express page does not seem to explain its purpose to non-students.

The news and events page and press releases page seem to be one in the same and are formatted incorrectly. Some of the type overlaps.

The press clippings section is blank.

I found instances of varying fonts within one article.

While surfing, I discovered that Troy also owns www.troy.edu. Apparently, the site is being moved away from www.troyst.edu. Makes sense, but the site is not new, just a bit redesigned.

I could go on. This site has promise and looks all right (a little too conservative for me), but it's not yet ready for prime time.

I believe Chip aka troylightning stated that it would not be completly finished until August which would coincide with the "official" changing of the name. There is a LOT of programming that has to take place in order for ALL the Troy campi (plural of campus? ) to come under one web site. Or at least look that way. However, you should check with him for any direct knowledge as he is one of the webmasters and I but a messenger.

Well, that would explain it. But they should have gotten the site right and then unveiled it, leaving the old site until then.

I should have mentioned that much of what is wrong with the site is out of Chip's control. If the alumni affairs office will not produce a calendar, updated coordinator's message or even chapter information, Chip's hands are tied.

the site was launched without being fully functional. Jack set a date and they met it, plain and simple. It did not matter whether it was 100%, just get it done because that is what they committed to. Poor prospective students, link leads nowhere but if you are "giving" you get all the information

Like I said before, "looks good unless you try to use it". I am not surprised knowing the legacy we are strapped with. I have many concerns with our leadership and I refuse to banter like I have seen on the previous board and this one.

If you want to read the past ten years of Troy State, now Troy, go back to 1990 and read about the Alabama School of the Deaf and Blind. Do a google search for "The Braille Monitor, February 1990, and add the name Jack Hawkins. Read the article about our leader's history. Only by the grace of God and Guy Hunt (former dishonored governor) did a man of
these credentials become Chancellor.

Hold your wallets, you are being fooled.

Okay guy....and you are??

I am not for or against Chancellor Hawkins (although I am a Chancellor's Scholar :D )

But you are getting on my nerves with your bashing...You have no name for yourself here, and I don't care to read what you have to say. The site is running, and I'm sure will be put to full use here in the coming future. The site actually looks more professional now.

I have recently gained access to 'another' university's student services... (those who know me, know what school)...I have a login and such...their student website is SO much more user friendly than Troy's. Hell...Troy doesn't even have an online student directory...but they're working on it...give it some time...

The TroySt.edu site should've been left running until all the kinks are worked out of Troy.edu....but let's not ask for blood yet...

Let me come to the plate for Chip. I was his graduate assistant for 8 months last year, and there are some things that he, nor anybody else has control over. When you're dealing with SACS, the Chancellor, etc, sometimes things have to be done at a certain time, ready or not. Because I know how much time and effort goes into updating pages, I can only imagine how much more time would have to be spent to completely redesign and update the site. As far as Alumni pages go, if you have ever dealt with the Alumni department, you should know that they are not the quickest at getting or updating information. I can't seem to remember if Chip updates their pages, or if it is the Alumni dept that is responsible for their own. I think that it is the Alumni Dept's responsibility. The same way that the business school website is handled by the SCOB. Or the English department would handle their websites, etc. Give it time, it will be perfect.

Rob:

What you posted was what I assumed. Again, I meant no criticism of Chip.

To say the alumni pages are not frequently updated is quite an understatement.

Communications, Troy. Do you get it?

I know that there was no criticism. Also, another thing that I just thought of when I read through the posts again, is that the university owns both troyst.edu and troy.edu. I seem to remember something about not allowing us to register troy.edu until we are troy university. Something about the .edu websites. For now, I know that if you type in troyst.edu, it will take you to troy.edu. But that is an issue totally seperate from the school. I think that is why the old site was not left up and running. Something to do with our licenses to run the website and the URL's associated with it.
