Since Mr. Ho posted what we can look forward to from TSOTWG, a friend of mine from Michigan shared a preview of the Chips band what what they will perform at the GMAC Bowl. I must say, I like how they get their dancers invloved... very nice!

Let's just stick to the lyrics of the song and not go into the personal details of band members..

Let's get on track or this thread is getting shut down very quickly.

Here's the Chippewa band, in case anyone's interested. Not a bad band, actually. Good drill, good marching, but the sound output for their size leaves something to be desired, however.

They'll make a good warm up act for SOTS.

Not bad, but that arrangement of Reelin' In The Years is a stock chart that I used with MY band last fall. There will be no comparison between the Chippewa Marching Band and the SOTS. Another pet peeve...if you're going to do a Steely Dan show, how does Sing, Sing, Sing fit in?

Their colorguard is pretty awesome.

Hopefully with Troy being the road team the SOTS will get to do the Call and Answer Pregame, that is such and epic intro

Their color guard is ok.... There is High school bands here in Atlanta that would put CMU to shame and their color guard!

This is what most college bands look like. Kinda smallish and playing H.S. charts. No drive or intensity. Pretty good color guard and very nice uniforms. Black pants make them look smaller than they are. Very nice balanced sound just not very bright. Velocity of the drill is lacking but very good field coverage. They tend to move to stop.

OK, old drum corps judge, couldn't resist.

I really look forward to seeing them in person.

What is with the batons?

They're good at what they do, no question. However, I'm in the boat with JC and SOTS 86 on this one... there is NO comparison to the SOTS.

I love the Marching Chips, but as it was said before, they aren't very loud, and its a well known fact. The band just doesn't produce the instruments that bring that big band sound, they are very good and talented, but never very loud.
