I'm talking to Soul Kitchen Music Hall on Dauphin Street and we're trying to get a band lined up for Tuesday night. Can any of you suggest a good band that plays at Troy and the students would be familiar with? They want the Troy students and fans to feel at home on Dauphin Street. Just give me some suggestions and I'll pass along.

Maybe someone who plays at the fraternity parties or local bars. The bar is really big and hosts big name acts. So it can be a large band. Thanks!

I love Soul Kitchen and there is not a better venue in Mobile. I say bring the Molly Ringwalds. They would pack it out and there is not a better party band and they play songs that everyone knows. They put on one hell of a show and they are in the area, I know they are playing at the IP casino on New Years Eve. They have played Soul Kitchen several times.

The Rave-Ups...here excellent video of The Red Wave and Mr. Ho in action in the 80's...it easy to figure out which is who in video. Seriously, after look at video Duckie really look like The Red Wave, same hair style and glasses. He always argue with Mr. Ho babe of the week...bring back good memory.

I've seen the Molly Ringwalds myself, good band. If you really wanna get the frats and sororities to Mobile...get Jon Maddox there. Last 2 times that guy was at the Doble Branch in Troy you could barely get in the door.

Mr Ho: Levi no competition for Jon Maddox when it comes to pullin ladies..
3NLB prolly learn something from JM.

I know this is slightly off topic but will the Sound of the South be making the trip to Mobile? If so what show will they do or will they perform a new one considering they have nearly a month to learn a new show?

It just won't be the same if we don't have the Sound in town.

Molly Ringwalds are out due to travel and pre booking. What type of music does Jon Maddox play? Has he played a lot in Troy?

They just want someone that Troy students/fans have heard and will come to see. Thanks

The band will be going, but how many of them will be going is completely dependent upon how many of them actually can and decide they want to go. At this point, they can't enforce any of the students except for those that are on scholarship. Marching band is a 1st semester class, not a 2nd semester, so they can't affect grades with students not going.

Also, the band will probably do one of the shows they've already done. Yes, there is a month before the game, but you have to realize that students are in finals now and then they're gone for the holidays. There will be no time for them to learn an entirely new show.

I've never been to soul kitchen, but I would suggest one of the following for me: Lynam, 17th Floor, Az-izz, Trotline, Hightide Blues, Fly by Radio.

So what you are saying is they have no dedication.

Widespread Panic - Kiss - Bon Jovi - Kings of Leon - I have others - LOL

Hate to say it - too far removed from that scene - sounds fun - hope you get a good one

Nope, I never said that at all. I'm only speaking the truth as an alumni of the band that graduated out in 2004. I just know how things are generally run and it won't include a whole new show because of the reasons I've already stated.

Every student from Troy knows Jon Maddox, and they dig the guy. He's played many times in Troy, yes. He plays all kinds of music..from Metallica to Gary Allan.
Maybe hurdlelove or Burn the Horse could post a message on the "TroyFans" facebook page or the GMAC Troy vs CMU Facebook page as a poll question and see what they say?
Just a thought..

The Sound and a new show? Now that's funny! If there is one thing you can count on with the Sound it is consistency. They will march to the middle of the field and stand there for 20 minutes playing songs that your grandfather think are old skool.

With it being a bowl game, I thought we could at least get a dog catching a frisbee.

Well, I guess you missed out pal..j/k.
Seriously though my sister graduated last May and I went with her and some friends to the DB at least 3 times to see this guy and I've never seen the place as packed as it was those nights..

Just an observation..

If you dislike it so much then don't watch it.

Well everyone in marching band is on a $300 scholarship this year. Even so I think maybe 15 peps didnt go to each of the last two bowl games and their spots were replaced by alumni members.

Hey I hear something...... it's whining...... it's hates SOTS....... has a fetish for apples.......... huh must be nothing
