Hey guys, congrats on the GMAC bid. I know it's not exactly what you wanted but Mobile and the GMAC folks really roll out the red carpet for the teams and players. Here's some info to get you started:

Downtown is the best place to stay. That's where the pep-rally and Mardi Gras parade are Tuesday night and all the good bars/restaurants. All are safe and easy walking distance around downtown and all are very close to eachother:

The Battle House -new and very nice

Reniassance Riverview Plaza- very nice / one team will be staying here

Radisson Admiral Semmes- great location / decent rooms

Holiday Inn Downtown- good location / ok rooms

Hampton Inn Downtown - very nice / brand new / awesome location

There are also your typical Best Western, Motel 6, Marriott Courtyards on the I-65 Service road in Mobile.

Every fan that I've talked to said the highlight of his/her trip was the Mardi Gras parade Tuesday night. Mardi Gras started in Mobile, AL and although ours isn't as crazy and celebrity driven, we have a great Mardi Gras. The cheerleaders, bands and mascots along with a ton of floats will parade through downtown. Afterwards, there's a pep-rally and firework show on the river. Then all the fans head to Dauphin Street (strip of bars) to party.

Mobile, AL

Ladd Peebles Stadium

It holds around 40,000 and is a decent stadium. Some skyboxes and a new paint job have been added. The University of South Alabama's football is calling Ladd home right now. The stadium is not in a very good area and don't even worry about trying to stay close to the stadium. There are no hotels close by and every one will have to drive or take a shuttle. The best thing is to get there early and make sure you park inside the gates. The neighborhood surrounding the stadium isn't great but you won't have any troubles. Right now Ladd hosts the USA Jags, Senior Bowl, GMAC Bowl and high school football games.

Dauphin Street is where all of the bars and restaurants are located. There's something for everyone (sports bars, martini bar, dance club, hang out bar, balcony bars, brew pub, etc.)

This should get you started. I don't think it would hurt to start planning a little. Again, I'll be around to answer any questions you might have. You can email me at tomfcunningham@gmail.com
