But when the refs don't call a shooting foul against the other team until 5 mins left in the game, how do we have a chance? Mercer had at least 27 trips to the free throw line. Hmmmm, the Zebras a little biased or did we commit that many fouls and they didn't??
:x :x

Someone should tell our players it doesn't matter how many points they score. As long as their opponents are scoring more they lose. Something's wrong when your opponent scores 105 points!!

Someone should also tell our coaches we should change strategies when our so-called defense isn't working.

wow....we make 22 three pointers and still lose. Maestri made some good post-game comments about looking good vs. actually being good. Interesting to note that the conference commissioner was in attendance. We shot 51% to their 57%. The conference is wide-open this year, and I think the conference tournament is going to be a great one. This loss only makes Friday's UCF game that much bigger. We're currently in third in the conference (7-5) Jacksonville is a half game up at 8-5. Friday night's game is on TV (CSS) @ 6:30pm CST.

We had a season high for three-pointers. Were had a chance to claim first place (G-W) lost badly to Jacksonville). What a waste.

It was a great offensive game, but the zone cost us every time that one Mercer guy would drain a three!

That 7-0 run for them killed us. How did we give up an open three and two embarrassing jams in less than a minute?

Now, let's focus on beating UCF!

Whether all you coaches out there believe it or not, the ZONE defense has been a huge reason for the success that this basketball program has had over the past years and this year. It is what they do and it is not going to change this year or in the future. The zone is Troy Basketball.

ALRIGHT!
Listen here buddy, you may be right about the defense Troy plays but that gives you no right at all to attack players parents or any other fan for that matter here in the public forum. If you have issues with the player, their style of play or their parents contact them in PM. If I was moderator of this board your comments would warrent an expulsion from the board.

Ten posts by Sportsman2. Hmmm.

You certainly can't be a true sportsman with that nasty display of classlessness.

Why don't you apologize or go away.

I couldnt agree more with the first paragraph, and have said all season that we dont have the inside size to play a man defense. We have to play the zone to cover up that weakness.

I couldnt disagree more with your second paragraph and question your motives. Keep that kind of grabage inside your own mouth. <content>

It's tough to win on the road in the league. That's just the way it is. I honestly don't care if we get the first seed or not. Tsufan and I agree that we would rather have the 2nd seed in the tourney without the pressure.

As for our defense, I didn't get to see sportsmans post--which I'm glad. But apparently he was correct about one thing. We will NEVER get out of the zone. In the 20 years I've watched Troy basketball, Maestri has NEVER played man. It's been pretty good to us. However, I do wish we had that element when we need it.

I'm pumped for the game Friday night. See all of you there!

What some of you seem to not realize or forget is that Troy's style of play is centered around the 3-point shot and playing a fast game. As a result, it doesn't matter how many points your opponent scores, as long as you score more points. We're currently running the "system" - the style of play that we began running in the late 80's and ran consistently through the mid to late 90's.

It's extremely difficult to win on the road all of the time but this team has done very well on the road. Now it's time to come home and pick up a couple of wins.

I must have ruffled some feathers with my comments, but if you look at what I said I only suggested that the coaches try something different when their defensive scheme is obviously not working.

That didn't necessarily mean to switch to man-to-man, which Troy coaches eschew because we lack interior height and bulk on our current roster.

But we could go to all sorts of other zone configuations. For example, we could stop pressing full-court. We could surprise the opponent with a three-quarter or half-court trap. Sheesh. I wasn't bad-mouthing anyone, especially our great coaches.

When some were questioning earlier this season whether or not we should fire coach Maestri I was appalled and said we should support him 100%. I also said that post should be removed from the board. So.... if anyone thinks I'm against zone defenses or any of our great coaches they are mistaken.

And just for the record, I never saw the post the guy made - and the post sarah made, was an observation, everyone gets upset over certain post, this guy regarding basketball just was out of line.

We tend to usally let the little things go, but post like his, was a stpe over the line.
