Our men's team just defeated Georgia State in Atlanta to take sole possession of second place in the A-Sun (behind Gardner-Webb of all teams).

From the broadcast it sounded like we played one of the best games of the season. Great shooting and EXCELLENT defense!

GO TROJANS!!!!

Excellent! I can't wait for the UCF game. If anyone needs tickets, I have 6 extras for UCF and FAU two days later.

That's freakin awesome! Maestri seems to possibly be doing it again. Pulling a young team together to succeed in the A-Sun. Does it look as though we're making a run for the title? Looks that way to me!

This is awesome...I listened to the whole game on Monday night and they sounded like they were on fire most of the game. Tonight I didn't get out of work until after the game was over and I called for the score and was pumped when I heard we won and Belmont lost last night. Way to go Trojans!! Don is the King of taking a young team and molding them into contenders! I am definitely going to try and be there next week guys for the UCF game. I can't tell you how much we need to have a full house against UCF and we need the student body to stay at Troy and not suitcase home that weekend. Talk it up Fred and Co. get those students in the stands!!

Trojans stake claim to second place, pay back Georgia State, 84-73

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Troy University men’s basketball team turned 17 Georgia State turnovers into 27 points and handed the Panthers a little payback in a 84-73 win at the GSU Sports Arena on Wednesday night.

The Trojans (9-11, 7-4 Atlantic Sun) won their fourth straight game to move into sole possession of second place in the A-Sun standings. Troy shot 56 percent from the floor and 50 percent from 3-point range to answer a 96-89 win in Troy on Jan. 13 by the Panthers (8-11, 5-6 A-Sun).

"I thought we did a good job tonight, especially on defense," Troy head coach Don Maestri said. "Our kids played well in all phases of the game tonight. We jumped out to a lead in the first half, and tehy did a good job of holding Georgia State off down the stretch."

Junior Bobby Dixon led the Trojans in scoring again. The A-Sun Player of the Week scored a game-high 22 points for his fourth 20-plus performance in the last six games. He also added five rebounds, two assists and three steals.

Senior Eddie Baker, just two days after scoring only six against Campbell, scored 20 points fopr Troy, in large part to an 8-for-11 performance from the free-throw line. Senior Corey Hornsby was 7-for-11 from the floor to score 18 points, while senior Ryan Heck added 10 for Troy. Baker led the Trojans with six rebounds, while Heck had a team-high three assists.

The Panthers were led by an unlikely player in Malcolm Manier. The junior hit six 3-pointers en route to 20 points to lead all five starters, who all scored in double figures. Kevin Thomas, who scored 28 in the Panthers’ win at Troy, scored 13, while Marcus Brown scored 11. Sylvester Morgan and Boyd Copeland each added 10.

The Panthers hit 14 3-pointers, but they were held to just 10 two-point field goals, only two in the first half.

The two teams exchanged the lead nine times to go along with two ties in the first half, but a 19-3 run over the last seven minutes of the half gave Troy an 11-point halftime lead and all of the game’s momentum with a 38-27 lead at the intermission.

The Trojans would stretch the lead to as many as 18 in the first seven minutes of the second half and led by as many as 15 in the last 10 minutes, but the Panthers would make a late run to try and get back into the game.

A late flurry by the Panthers cut the Troy lead to six with 2:15 to play, but the Trojans hit 8-of-10 free throws in the last two minutes, including 4-of-4 from Dixon, to seal the win and tie the season series.

The Trojans have five days off before returning to action on Monday at Mercer at 6 p.m. in their first game at the new University Center. The game will be broadcast on the Troy Network, with airtime set for 5:45 p.m. The game can be heard locally on WTBF-FM 94.7 and on the World Wide Web via www.troytrojans.com.

Did that just say that TROY will be Mercer's first game at their new basketball arena? I don't like the way that's shaping up already. I know our team is hot, but it's difficult to beat a team that's very excited about playing in their brand new arena. Think about our football team since we rennovated our stadium! I just pray the Trojans can stay hot and continue to push their way to number one!

I think the writer meant to say that it will be Troy's first trip to that arena since it was renovated last year.

I believe that is the correct statement. From what I remember last year, we were supposed to be the first game in the new arena last year. A last minute decision had us playing in their old arena, and the next home game was the first one.
