Troy defeated Campbell 87-61, thanks to mental toughness, said coach Don Maestri.
"They did a great job of not taking this team (Campbell) lightly ... to jump out 26-6 showed the focus that you have to have when you are playing people you are supposed to beat."
Troy (8-11, winner of the last eight out of 10 games) is a half-game out of second place and two games (Gardner-Webb is 8-2; Troy is 6-4, tied with Mercer for third) out of first place.
Who would have thunk it? :)
The Trojans forced 24 Campbell turnovers, and hit 12 three-pointers. Four Trojans were in double figures, continuing a long streak.
Maestri said he was proud of the fact that Troy finished the first half of the conference schedule with a 6-4 conference record, after starting 0-2 at home.
"That's a mighty big achivement, in my opinion," Maestri said.
Maestri said he was especially proud of Adam Holmes and will play him more.
"Adam Holmes he has a good feel for the game of basketball. He comes right in totally cold and doesn't seem rattled, doesn't seem like he's been playing 30 minutes a game," Maestri said. "You expect him to make plays and he makes them."
Nice game, guys!
How was the crowd, atmosphere?
Now, dispatch Ga. State and then DEEstroy UCF!

Crowd was pretty thin to start out with...but it filled decently about 5 mins into the game. I don't know the capacity, but the place was probably about half full?
The crowd lit up after they started nailing 3's...the refs were throwing mercy fouls on us, it was rediculous.

Well, it sure did empty out real quick with like five minutes left in the game! Of course, half full is just not gonna cut it at the UCF game. I'm harassing everyone that I can to get them to that game. I've even told my family that they should drive up, since they've been to more football games this season than basketball games since I've been to Troy. My little brother and sister can be as obnoxious as me when it comes to games.

What are they rushing to leave for? The bards don't get crowded until very late.
It wasn't even much of a night for TV.
There isn't a traffic jam on the road.
I never understand the early exiters.
