Trojans Add 5-Star to Tennis Roster

TROY, Ala. - The Troy University women's tennis team received a boost just as the semester started this week, adding a five-star American-born player to the roster for the 2009-10 season.

Troy head coach Eric Hayes announced this week that Kelly Irving, originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, has enrolled at Troy University and will be eligible to play immediately for the Trojans. She joins five other committments for the Trojans for the upcoming season.

Irving has traveled all over the country to play tennis, and originally committed to Arizona after playing in the Winter Nationals in Tucson each year. She has achieved a national ranking as high as 12th in the country in her young career, and more importantly defeated Melanie Oudin who was a finalist at the 2008 USTA Tennis Classic of Troy and a Round of 16 participant at Wimbledon this season.

Irving choose to enroll at Troy after looking at Arizona, Auburn, as well as William & Mary.
