View Full Version : UCF WINNERS ON THE COURT, LOSERS IN THE STANDS

UCF took it to us today, beating us as bad as we beat them last year in their arena, maybe even worse. Our D was good, our full court press was good, but we couldn't make a free throw to save our collective lives, it was awful. Don needs to take our team and have them shoot free throws for 8 hours straight. I believe the total FT missed would have made a difference in the game's final outcome or darn close. Rebounding was also non-existent pretty much until the second half late in the game. That cancelled all we did good on defense. UCF was hot on the 3's, they couldn't miss, especially their man Troy. So, they beat us good on the court, no questions about that.

In the stands, however, UCF was the loser. They were crude, rude, insulting and down right obnoxious. They yelled obscenities to our players, coaches, parents and fans. They yelled you SU** over and over and over again, how original. They Sang "TROY YOU SU**" to the song We Will Rock You Part II, with their band playing the song and the their Cheerleaders leading the house on the court twice in their classless rendition. They even yelled the F-Bomb several times at our players and coaches. All within ear shot of school security and UCF officials, all who did nothing. Those doing this, for the most part, were a bunch of yellow T-shirt wearing students know as "Kirk's Jerks." These are a pack of unruly students who sit directly behind the visiting team's bench, player's families, school officials, close friends and fans. I was sitting there today and was actually embarrassed for UCF. They were yelling such obscenities that a girl that I went to school with who lives in central Florida had to cover her 11 year-old son's ears several times. It was that bad folks. Several of us turned around and asked them to cool it, but to no avail. Now, I'm not prude, and get into the game as much as the next guy. I can talk smack with the opposing teams fans as good as anyone, but this was down right bad. Yelling the crap they did at the top of their lungs was not necessary. I use to live in NY and go to Yankee games and even in Yankee stadium they will eject fans who yell obscenities, but not UCF. No one made any effort to stifle this gross display of classlessness. So to all you Kirk's Jerks…..you guys are truly that, Jerks! Now there is nothing you can say to try and rationalize what you guys are all about. If you reply and try and rationalize what you do and say at these games, you will only make yourselves look worse then you are already have. So don't try, just take some good advice and clean up your act before you tarnish your good school's name. I know there are a lot of good fans at UCF, mostly the more mature members of the crowd, but Kirk's Jerks leave a negative lasting impression on all that visit your school. I was at the UCF vs. Troy game last year sitting in nearly the same spot and nothing has changed, it only has gotten worse. Oh, and one other thing, we had to hear about how Troy doesn't have cable and we all drive trucks, live in trailers, etc…etc…etc. Again, how orginal. But, one of these Kirk's Jerks yells out near the end of the game….."Hurry up and lose Troy, I have to go home and make out with my sister…." Now that explains how they got so obnoxious….inbreeding.

To the UCF administration, especially the person or persons who are in charge of admisions. I had three 17 year-old high school students with me, one of them my step daughter, and they all went to sit on the other side of the arena as far away from Kirk's Jerks in the second half because they were even offended. Now you know that's bad when 17 year olds are offended. I was taking them to see the game and to also see the campus in case they wanted to go to UCF, but it's safe to say from the conversation I had with them afterwards, they don't seem interested.

its funny how the fans in one arena could be called abusive to the other team. As far as The F bombs, i only heard it yelled at the refs.

Maybe you dont understand the concept of the student section, your supposed to cheer for your team and heckle the other team, hopefully getting into a player's head. when we were in georgia 2 years ago we had to listen to your students as well as last year, and I dont remember them being angels either.

See my take on the moronic UCF thugs (whose cheers, BTW, were of sixth grade mentality and absolutely no sense) at:

http://gotroytrojans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1445&start=15

The fact that you try to justify the screaming of obscenities, literally, for whatever reason, into the ears of young children, among others, bolsters our argument that you have no class.

You are pathetic.

Two things-

First, while it is the job of the students to cheer for your team and heckle the other team, it should never consist of the things that TSU-baggs has described to us. I don't know what kind of university they run down in Orlando, but in Troy, students get kicked out of the game for yelling things like that. Troy even went so far as to stop Maestri's Maniacs from screaming "You Suck" whenever a visiting teams player would get fouled or pulled out.

Secondly, I was in that crowd of students 2 years ago at Georgia State, and I can honestly say that nothing was said even remotely close to what TSU-baggs has described tonight. The majority of the students that were at that game when we won the title were my friends and that's not the way we chose to represent ourselves or our university. While we got into the game and all, we never sat directly behind your bench and screamed obscenities at your team either! About the only thing we really yelled directly at the UCF team, fans, band and cheerleaders was "U-C-That" while pointing at the scoreboard. And that was only because we got sick of hearing your same old "U-C-F" chant over and over and over!

The only problem is that half of the things he described didnt happen or weren't as severe as he made it out to be. There were no F-bombs, I have never heard one there. We say "Hey Ref, You suck" when they make a bad call. I did hear the comment about some guy sleeping with his sister. When we do they hey song at the parts with hey we say You suck after. Suck isnt profane and this guy took it too seriously, that is the bottom line.

Perhaps he made his comments about the UCF stands to pull out as many moronic UCF Lurkers as possible? I think he's done a pretty good job....

The student section has NEVER used obscenities in their chants in the years that I have attened the games (unless you consider "suck" and obscenity, in that case you're living in the 50s). If you heard the "f-bomb" I can assure you it was isolated.

Quit trying to paint UCF fans as classless because the STUDENT section taunted and teased the opposing team. It happens EVERYWHERE. Is this a joke or have you never seen college basketball in your life?

Let that be a lesson to you...don't come back. If you're looking for a hospitable environment for the visiting team and it's fans then go to Disney World.

If you do come back, I suggest sitting far away from the court...preferably in the uppermost part of the arena. 8)

I am going to step on some Troy fan's toes here. I think its crappy and pretty lame that our university officials ask our people to stop saying "suck" or "mammas boy" etc at our basketball games. I support our basketball team 100%..but if we went to places such as Duke, Texas, Stanford..etc..and we asked them to stop that stuff we would get laughed at in a heart beat. My point is..while the profanity is a little uncalled for..its sad to say that heckling is part of the game and fun for all. I know I wasnt a quiet one in the stands..I said some things I shouldnt have..but hey dont we all? So kudos to the UCF fans for getting the heads of our fans and players. I just wish we would have a turn out for our team as well.

GO Troy!

There is a way to be excited and not be over the top and cross the line of decency. I went to the Duke/Toledo game back in December at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, and the "Cameron Crazies" (Duke's famous student section) is a loud and crazy group, but first and foremost they are extremely classy. They don't boo the opposing teams, nor make fun of the opposing team's fans, and don't use profanity or Coach K would ban them from the arena if they did. They are there to cheer for Duke.

Many bush league schools such as UCF don't have any class and aren't traditionally used to winning, so they don't know how to handle success when it comes around.

If you do come back, I suggest sitting far away from the court...preferably in the uppermost part of the arena.

The Troy families and fans sat where their tickets placed them. Understand? It was reserved seating.

UCF obviously condones this seating setup (and its possible violent result) by intentionally placing the opposition's fans in front of the mouth-breathing "Jerks".

So I suppose it will not be unexpected to see a fight break out one of these days when an opponent's fan gets sick of some goon screaming "you suck" or "F-you" down the back of his neck and sends the idiot flying.

----------

You geniuses really suck. How's that?

The difference is, I'm not screaming it at old women and young children from a distance close enough to have them feel the breath flowing from my mouth.

Do you get it? Probably not.

Hey, I can cuss with the best of them. But it requires a bit of intelligence to limit one's vulgar vocabulary in the presence of people not accustomed to it, or expected to endure it.

But by the sound of some of the cheers ("Troy is not a State!" ... Huh?) coming from the student section, I question the success of the UCF admission requirements. In fact, my friend from Austria (I brought him along to give him the college basketball experience) asked me, in all seriousness, if that was the section for - to put it politely - the mentally challenged. He said their faces, especially, made him think they were mentally retarded.

Would these idiots have acted like that if their mothers and little sisters were seated directly in front of them?

On second thought, yes, the probably would have.

So kudos to the UCF fans for getting the heads of our fans and players. I just wish we would have a turn out for our team as well.

Whiner, I didn't see that happen. We all kept cool, laughing off most of the moronic antics. I left when I felt myself getting ready to get involved with the people behind me (when it began to become physical, such as the shouting into my ears and touching my head). It wasn't worth getting arrested for.

I just felt bad for the young kids (who were intimidated) and a couple of older women, who were a bit shocked.

What Troy experienced at UCF was a drop in the bucket compared to the scene at New Mexico, where 16,000-plus fans were screaming at them. I never saw any of our players pay any attention to the paltry UCF crowd.

Some UCF fans are denying it happened. Others are justifying it. That's pathetic.

It happened; those words (including the F-bomb) were screamed. A number of us heard it.

UCF has been scolded publicly for this before. A year ago and even before that, the conduct of its fans was debated on UCFs own boards. Other teams have experienced the classless behavior. It's nothing new and it adds to UCF's dislike among other members of the A-Sun and even the MAC (oops, better not mention that conference, which UCF was - starting in its first year - poised to control).

The only hoops atmosphere improvement seems to have been the eliminatation of the F-bomb from official cheers. But the word (and the violent nature in which these words are used, including crazy hand gestures literally right above the heads of opposing fans) is still thrown out (within feet of small children) by groups of morons calling themsevles UCF fans.

Whack, I know what I heard....and I was sitting at the bottom of the stands directly behind our bench and you guys yelled everything I quoted that I said Kirk's Jerks said, even one of your guys "having to go home and make out with his sister." You said sleep with his sister, did I possibly misquote the guy which is even worse. As for "sour grapes" give me a break. Tthe first thing I said was how good the UCF Basketball team played and they were by far the winners on the court. So, once again, there is nothing you can do to justify this or rationalize that your guys are there to support your team. That didn't work. I love rowdy fans, as a matter of fact I really get into the game and lovet to exchange civilized smack, but I don't personally attack players, family members or scream obscenities at the top of my lungs. One thing I have to ask you, and you really need to think this through. If I had a video of the game focused on Kirk's Jerks and we could hear everything that was said and showed it to your University president and you B-Ball coach, they would surely institute a policy that obscenities yelled in the game would result in the student or alumni being ejected. Now really think about that question and give me an honest answer.

Thanks.

No it wouldnt happen. They already have a policy like that i have seen students (not in the kirks jerks) ejected from games before. The worst I have heard in that arena was someone calling a ref an a-hole or when an opposing fan tries to start a verbal fight over our cheers 2 people get in a match. It is very true that it can cause a fight, but only because some fans take what is said too seriously. If there has EVER been an f-bomb in there its usually one moron that is responding to someone elses comments/threats. I dont think for a second that the visiting fans are innocent either.

Bottom line is our cheers are not bad and are all in good fun. Go to almost any other arena and you will hear much worse.

I congratulate UCF on a game well played but I too witnessed the juvenile antics of the “Jerks” I think it’s great that they have team spirit, and I don’t even mind if they are there, but for reputation sake, make them sit in an area where the opposing team fans can enjoy the game as much as they do. It’s absurd that the powers to be at UCF would condone subjecting guest of their arena to such inappropriate behavior. If I were to ever see this at my school, I would be the first to inform our folks that we have lowered our standards, and I would not tolerate supporting a school that would not want ALL of the fans to enjoy the sporting event. I do not care to attend another game like that until changes are made. I’m glad someone finally started the ball rolling on this one, because the same thing happened last year and UCF never got the message. By the way, it doesn’t matter that you won one game, what does matter is if you have the ability to be a winning school in the eyes of your peers.
Congratulations, but you lost!

P.S. I appologize to my friends that I invited to have a good time at UCF while visiting me in Orlando.

Yea, a student section behind the opposing bench.

Man, NOBODY else does that

Here is a thought- if you are so offended by the very MILD cheers that take place, DON'T COME! This is our court, our arena, and our team. Sorry if we don't throw roses for the opposing team and cheer for them.

I could see you getting mad if we were yelling at the fans in the stands. As it is we make sure that doesnt happen. We police ourselves and have gotten rid of anyone yelling at the fans. The players are fair game however.

Chanting airball and telling the coach to put heck back in so we can get turnovers is a way to get in the kid's head. If you dont see the humor of 'you cant rebound' its only because your team couldnt rebound, i belive it was 48-18 in our favor, so that was well deserved.

Yelling at the refs is completely called for because unless you are belmont you get the broom up your backside every game. As stated earlier if you cant take collage students yelling at your team then grow some thicker skin and move to the general admission seats

UCF, Dude, you just don't get it. I didn't have a problem with the jeers about us not being able to rebound, I was even saying that chant to myself while Kirk's Jerks were chanting it, because we couldn't rebound yesterday. Most of the guys who know me on this board know that I can be pretty critical of our team on this board and even at games when we don't play well because I demand perfection. Chanting we can't rebound or air ball...air ball, is perfectly fine ande expected. But it wasn't just that, okay buddy. Why can't you just admit it and move on. You know, let me know how you feel if I cam up to you Mom with you standing right by her and yelled at the top of my lungs that SHE SUCKS! Remember, that is not a bad word according to you guys, but I guarantee she would be offended and you would possibly have to result to some violence, no? Now, you're probably going to say that none of your Jerks yelled directly at someone's Mom, but YOU SUCKED was yelled over and over again at the top several Jerks lungs and when there is a young child there, it's just as offensive as if I yelled it directly at your Mom or you! Don't you agree?

Regarding fans seating location:

I sit in the section across from the Jerks, and you guys. In his section there were 3 rows with paper on them that said "Reserved for visiting team"

When we played Stetson, their fans sat there (as well as behind the bench where you sat). So for those of you who were sitting there - was that the result of a ticket purchase - or did you recieve tickets through the team, because when I went to Mercer and GSU, Dexter had gotten me a ticket and it was for the few rows behind the bench. Fortunately they don't have much of a student section to boast.

Come to think of it, there were Troy fans sitting in the section where I was sitting (its the one next to the pep band). I'll seriously ask our AD to try to come up to a solution for this though. But it won't involve the Jerks and Rowdies et al being moved from behind the other teams bench - that's what a home court advantage is about.

Do you understand the meaning of sportsmanship and class? Obviously not.

I hope the powers that be at UCF read these threads and see how their school is being represented.

And BTW, most games I have attended seat the rowdy student groups in the end zone. Oh, but you all don't have one of those.

Good idea, ST.

There were Troy fans in the middle of the area on the side opposite the benches, and Troy fans right behind the team.

The fans behind the team got their tickets through Troy; the others bought their tickets at UCF.

And to that other poster, yeah, there was just one of us there. Can't count, either?

Let's see how many UCF fans make the 7- to 8-hour trip to Troy.

It's about your classless manner in which you handle wins as well as defeats.

You're an embarrassment to UCF, Orlando and Florida. Clean up your act. Your school's rep is bad enough.

Now don't start reaching *******. I have to say I pretty much am in agreeance with you guys on some things here.

But don't go saying my alma mater has a bad rep - unless you can back it up. UCF isn't exactly hurting for enrollment (despite being head to head on requirements with the University of Florida, and above Florida State University), nor are we hurting for investment from business and technology firms as we just opened The Rosen School of Hospitality Management, The Dixon School of Accounting, The DuVos Sports Management Program (Headed by Dr. Lapchick who is widely regarded as the foremost expert in ethics and diversity in sports and is a regular columnist for ESPN - I figured the ethics in sports thing would be some irony given the topic of this thread), and have newly established partnership with Electronic Arts. There are more in the fields of engineering that I frankly can't name off the top of my head.

The reputation as far as the physical beauty of the campus (and the students) has been confirmed with the WB networks decision to stage a college reality show on our campus.

Right, because we are just a bunch of orlando gangsta thugs, if u think that, all you need to do is look due west of UCF (USF)

I smell some jealousy 8)

you wish your school was half of what UCF is ;)

All I can say is what I have heard - from fans of other schools, online and in person. Your outspoken fans - not your programs or facilities - give UCF its reputation.

I hope your fans will someday let the facilities and academics speak louder than their vulgar voices.
