I was in the Trojan Center today getting my daily fill of Chik-fil-A when I saw a sign for the SGA elections coming up. There are a few positions open that need to be filled. But the sign also had a picture of T-ROY and Hector with something to the effect of "who do you like?". It appears as if the student body will get to vote on who the mascot will be. I am begging all of you students to go vote for T-ROY. Hector the pink cross-eyed pig has to go. This is our chance to let our voices be heard. Spread the word!

no question...hector must go away to some nomadic land far far away and we MUST revive T-Roy!

And...this was in the "Ask the AD" section of the athletics website...

Question: Why did we change T-Roy? And if we had to make a change with the mascot, why did we come up with one of the worst looking costumes I've ever seen? Why not let the students or even alumni have some input or feedback before making decision such as this? Please help make the right decision and do away with the horrible mascot we have now.

Answer: The old T-Roy costume was completely worn out and a new costume was desperately needed. The athletics department hired a company to design a mascot that was comical in nature and attractive to children. It was designed to compliment our new athletic logos and marks. With that said, we are not totally pleased with the new mascot costume and hope to address that with the design company before next football season.

Wow...my first impression of Hector was Super Mario on steriods with some armor...

Then I saw T-Roy and I swear they gave Luigi a suit of armor, but ran out of steriods.

I don't think Italy was even around yet? Let alone Nintendo...

I think I recall the Greeks thought Hector was a real stud. Who came up with this gay person??

Hey, guys, I realize that picture doesn't flatter me very much. I really don't want the mascot job anyway. I withdraw my name from consideration!!!

They really need to put names of the people who ask questions on there. I mean seriously...did you see the question from the person who asked why alumni don't get into the games free??? I mean, come on!!!!

Because of interning, I haven't been on campus very much since we got back. Someone told me tonight about the T-Roy/Hector election. When is it? I need to know so that I can send everyone with an ID down there to vote!!!

The girl that told me about it doesn't even know that this board exists, so she didn't get the idea from here. If it is real, I'll be there.

Now that I think about it...I vaguely recall seeing a sign in the Trojan Center...but I usually ignore those signs...usually stupid stuff. I will DEFINITELY pay attention if I'm in there tomorrow....

There is an article in today's Tropolitan. The election is Wednesday 1/26 from 8-5. It is not an official vote to change it, but it is a student opinion vote and the results will be given to the administration.

Everybody,

The Mascot was and still is called T-Roy. The University has refered to the statue in the quad as hector and also the Trojan that is on the new logo. T-Roy is still T-Roy. Now, I do agree that the mascot they had designed is terrible but they are working with the design company to get the problem fixed.

As Always, Go Trojans!!!

No way that thing is T-Roy...they might call it T-Roy...it'll NEVER be T-Roy!

I don't thik they can effectively redesign that monstrosity. It calls for a shredder and rebuild.

Do you have inside information or something? The fact that the university spent good money for the new mascot is an embarrassment. The old T-Roy was an established tradition at Troy and all he required was some mending and TLC.

Was it the AD that approved the change? The SGA was not consulted? The student body and alumni were not given a voice in the matter?

I always thought it was great that Troy had an established mascot. Some traditions did not need changing due to our name and logo changes. Its a shame that we have gone this far into the basketball season without T-Roy at Trojan Arena.

Students please vote to bring back the old T-Roy.

To my knowledge, it was a decision that was made by people above the cheerleaders and their sponsor and the student body as a whole. I don't know if that leaves it to the athletic dept or the administration. But I do know that the decision was not that of the cheerleading sponsor, the cheerleaders, or the SGA.

TROYgirl... My point exactly! The cheerleader sponsor should have been a key member in the decision process. His/Her insight into what makes an effective mascot for TROY is critical.

Big AL and Aubie are nationally recognized and compete with other mascots for awards based on their orginality and creativity. Hector the Trojan displays neither and is only a canidate for ridicule.

Please bring back T-Roy! (Even the name is original and creative)
