Within months, if all goes according to plan, north county residents can soon seek Troy University undergraduate and graduate college degrees without trooping down to the Fort Walton Beach campus.

When Southside Elementary School closes at the end of this school year, much of the school’s existing physical plant will be remodeled into school district offices.

In addition, Troy University has entered into an agreement to lease approximately 2,100 square feet of space for classrooms and administrative offices.

Undergraduate programs will include accounting, psychology, business administration, computer science, social science, political science, resources and technology management.

At the graduate level, degrees will be offered in counseling and psychology, public administration, management and human resources management, Jarosz said.

A masters-level program in educational leadership will be of particular interest to teachers and those interested in K-12 education management, Jarosz said.

According to plans approved at the March 9 Okaloosa School District board meeting, the Troy facility at Southside will be made up of two classrooms and an administrative space. Jarosz said the facility will include student services.

Troy hopes to have its Crestview campus operational by this summer.
