I want to say it was between 3,500-4,000 when I started in the Fall of 2001. I could be wrong but conservatively speaking that would be about 60% increase over 7 years. That's not too bad at all.

In my opinion the leadership has done well growing the university without it losing the small school feel that attracts so many. Hopefully a large percentage of the 6,502 will remain loyal to the school after graduation. As has been discussed in the football forum, this needs to be a main area of focus as we try to grow our fanbase. Unfortunately many of the older folks who attended Troy when it was D-II or 1AA won't ever see Troy as a legit competitor in D1 sports. Obviously there are exceptions and I am very thankful for those people. I graduated in '05 and am a football season ticket holder now for the second year and hope to be forever. I must say it seems like this is becoming the case more and more which is very encouraging.

Nomad,
You may be right with that assessment. I graduated in the mid 90's when we were I-AA and initially thought the move to I-A in football was a bad idea. Thnakfully, I can say I was absolutely wrong. Don't get me wrong, I have been following Troy since I was a student and have attended most home games and many away games over the years, but many grads of my era see Troy and will continue to see Troy as the I-AA program that they remember from their days on campus. It's a hard perceprion to fight, but I think we will get there. We have made great strides over the last 5-7 years and I see that trend continuing. Maybe more "older folks" (the sad thing is I don't feel like an old person, but being in my 40's qualifies me as middle aged....man that is depressing.....Where is my Tylenol Arthritis medicine? A call from AARP can't be too far away...uuggghhh) like me will awaken to the reality that Troy is a legit I-A program.

yep, TROY is a bonafide mid-major power at this point. i'm fine with being mid-major, in fact i like it a lot. i just want us to get that occasional upset over the BCS boys. one big upset every other year would be great to start off with.
