Safeties take control of Troy secondary in 2008

With Leodis McKelvin and Elbert Mack gone to the NFL, the Troy Trojans secondary will rely heavily on two safeties and a nickleback in the 2008 campaign.

The senior trio of Sherrod Martin, Terence Moore and Tavares Williams will anchor the secondary for the Trojans. Jeremy Rowell, Troy defensive coordinator and secondary coach, said he is confident in this core group of returning starters.

"Obviously we will be stabilized by Tavares, Sherrod and Terence back there," Rowell said. "All three started last year and have played a lot of snaps for us. We have a lot of experience in that group of guys."

Martin said practice is going good so far and the Trojans are working on the small things during practice.

"We need to try and come out and be fundamentally sound every day," Martin said. "We need to find that rhythm on the field."
