Trojan pride alive

By Matt Nascone, The Messenger

The Troy Trojans are back in action on the field at Movie Gallery Veterans Stadium.

Troy's football team took to the field for the first day of fall practice Wednesday evening. Head coach Larry Blakeney was just excited to start a new year.

"This is our 18th year doing this and I have been blessed to keep doing this and it is still fun," Blakeney said. "This age group of guys is certainly where I think I need to be. We work hard to coach them in football and we work hard to coach them outside the game."

But on the field the Trojans got the season started in helmets and shorts. The NCAA restrictions on practice allow helmets and shorts the first two days, then the players can put the shoulder pads on for the next two days and full gear comes into play on the fifth day of practice.

The beginning of practice is always the toughest part, according to Blakeney, but the Trojans will use the first couple of days to see exactly where the team stands.
