TROY, Ala. - The season has long been over in the collegiate ranks of track and field.

However, Troy senior Tawanna Meadows is still running heading into this week. Meadows, a native of Panama City, will be running against some of the best in the world in the NCAC Under-23 Championships as part of the United States National U-23 team. She will be running in the 100-meter dash during the meet.

Meadows will board a plane Tuesday morning bound for Mexico City and a once in a lifetime opportunity, less than two weeks after competing at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

At the Trials, Meadows came up short in attempting to qualify for the United States Olympic Team that will compete in Beijing in August.

“It felt like the Olympics. They say the Olympic trials are harder than the actual Olympics. It was a very tough and hard experience, but I loved it,” Meadows said. “I am just thankful that I got a chance to go to the Olympic trials. Not too many athletes can say they went. There were about one thousand athletes that actually qualified for the Trials, and they only take the top three from each event. For a relay they make take six in total. I was just thankful to get a chance to run against all the elite sprinters of Nike, Adidas, Asic and all the other sports out there.”
