Buddy Starling, the dean of admissions at TROY, told a group of us yesterday that he attended a scholarship banquet in Andalusia a few days ago for graduating seniors in Covington County. At this event, students were honored for receiving various college scholarships. Of the four valedictorians in attendance from the area high schools, three of them have accepted scholarships to TROY and will be attending the main campus this fall. The other valedictorian has taken a scholarship to Alabama. Buddy said that when the admissions representative from UA gave her presentation at this event, she specifically pointed out to the audience how TROY beat UA out for most of those students. The three students who chose TROY were offered scholarships to UA that totaled around $30,000.00 and this shows what a big deal this was to get those students.

This is really a significant accomplishment for TROY and shows how great of a job our admissions staff is doing to attract the best and brightest from the state. Ten years ago, this might not have been the case, but through the success we've had in marketing our university, the high-profile success we've had in athletics, and through the success that our academic programs continue to make, we can now compete with any university for the top students.

Awesome. Good news. I can't wait to find out what the enrollment on the main campus will be in the fall.

Applications are up 25% from this time last year, so that should mean a nice increase in student population for the fall of 2008.

That's cool, but I'm jealous. I got a Millennium Scholar's Award, and no one wrote an article about me!! :-p
